It is for reasons like this and the infotainment issues that I like to wait for a good while before grabbing a brand new model.

Yup, I really want a Civic coupe but I'd rather wait a bit and have most of the bugs fixed before getting one. At least the same problems plaguing the Civic Sedan shouldn't happen on the Coupe. At least I hope it doesn't.

You'd assume so, but I also wouldn't be entirely surprised if they had the same or different problems. Car companies, even good ones like Honda, haven't exactly been a pillar of quality and virtue in society.

Wouldn't you have to remove the engine from the car and tear it apart to even inspect for this problem?

All indications are that they can inspect for this by dropping the oil pan, removing a baffle plate below the crankshaft, and, using a borescope, go up from below the pistons and around the crankshaft and connecting rods to inspect the snap rings. They probably have to remove some stuff to get the pan off. Dropping the exhaust, for instance. Don't know what structure and plumbing is there. There's a 25+ page thread on the *other* Civic X forum discussing this, complete with parts diagrams for the pistons and so on.

But time will tell. Honda still hasn't offered up any procedures.
