Post 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Turbo: Everything You Need To Know

We’ve already seen sneak peeks of the car while three of them were being transported and now we can feast our eyes on the official pictures of the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback.

Built and exported from Honda’s Swindon plant in England, the hatchback looks similar to the Civic sedan but with a larger rear windshield and the taillights are connect by a spoiler that bisects the glass. Another smaller spoiler was added to the top of the hatch and it’s painted to match the body on top of improving the hatchback’s aerodynamics.

Like the sedan, the hatchback will be available in 5 trims; LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Sport Touring. All of them will come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine but they won’t all be tuned to produce the same amount of power. The LX, EX, and EX-L models will be getting a 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque variant while the two sport models will be pushing out 180 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. Part of the additional power comes from the center-exit exhaust.

Another bit of good news is for those of you who prefers manual instead of auto. The new civic hatchback will be getting manual drive on top of the turbo engine. Where the coupes and sedans are only getting manual drive with naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four engines, the hatch will have a six speed manual gearbox with a turbo engine. This will be the standard on the LX, Sport, and EX models (CVT optional) and it’ll come as an optional feature for the other trims.

As for additional and standard equipment, the hatchback should have the same features as the other two civic models except for the Sport Touring trim. Since it has the word “touring” in it, we can assume that it’ll come with a bevy of goodies including Honda’s sensing equipment and safety technology, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, LED headlights, etc.

While we’re very excited to see the hatchback return to U.S. shores, something we haven’t seen since the 2002–2005 Si, we’re probably even more excited to see the next-gen Civic Type R which will be based on the 2017 Civic Hatchback.

The power difference isn't enough to make any difference so that's not something to really worry about. I just wonder if the center exhaust will change the tone enough ?

This should make those who wanted manual drive and a turbo happy. I remember people asking for it when the sedan and coupe came out and Honda delivered. Can't wait to see pictures from its reveal instead of just renderings.

They can't deliver on it in volume since there just isn't the demand to scoop up that volume, the hatch just makes it possible since already its set out to be a low volume model. But even that probably depends on the volume from the Sedan and Coupe since its much more risky of a move, Honda can cut their losses with the two main stream models.
