Honda Accidentally Leaks Civic Si Torque Figure

In an email sent to Civic fans, Honda has accidentally included the torque figure for the next Civic Si, which is set to debut at the upcoming New York International Auto Show.

Some may wonder if this was done on purpose, but that doesn’t seem likely as it took Honda months to reveal the Civic Type R's output. Also, a Honda representative has confirmed with Road And Track that the number wasn’t supposed to be released until we’re closer to the auto show date.

No matter the reason, we now know that the Civic Si’s 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will produce 192 lb-ft of torque. That same engine is found in the outgoing Civic and produces 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque in base trim, or 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque in Sport or Touring models.

The tuned Civic Si has received a substantial boost in torque compared to what’s already available and 192 lb-ft is enough for a spirited daily driver. There’s also a good 100 torque headroom for the Civic Type-R and its turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine.

As for the Civic Si’s horsepower, Honda probably left that out of the email so that fans will have something to look forward to at the auto show. If the torque increase is any indication, we can expect to see the Si produce in excess of 200 horsepower.

Perhaps Honda will release the full specs of the new Civic Si at next month’s New York International Auto Show.
