2018 Honda Civic Si Goes Turbo

Honda will be debuting the new 2018 Civic Si at next week’s New York Auto Show, but the automaker has already given us a preview of its specs before it goes on sale in May.

Sitting under the upcoming Type R, the Civic Si doesn’t get a huge power boost compared to last generation’s 201hp. The Si’s power comes from a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection and dual variable cam timing, producing 205 horsepower at 5700 rpm. Its torque number is more impressive as it received a nice bump from 170 lb-ft to 192 lb-ft and peak torque can be maintained from 2300-5000 rpm.

Only coming with a short-throw six-speed manual transmission, the Si should be a better daily driver than its predecessor. According to CarScoops, the Si’s chassis has been upgraded to be lighter and stiffer with an adaptive electric power steering system, sport suspension with adaptive dampers, helical front limited-slip differential, 12.3-inch front brake rotors and a set of 235/40 R18 tires .

Those who are more track orientated can go for the optional set of stickier tires. Also, the Si shares its front upper control arms and solid front and rear bushings with the more powerful Civic Type R.

Going on sale next month, the Civic Si Sedan and Coupe is expected to have an MSRP in the mid-$20,000 range.

I would love to know the curb weight figures, especially on the coupe. I think this could turn out to be a very nimble and fun car to take to the track.
