Honda UK has announced pricing
and release information for the much anticipated Civic Type R. Starting at £30,995 ($40,181 with direct conversion) for the base model, the Civic Type R undercuts both the Ford Focus RS and Volkswagen Golf R, which are its main rivals.
For a standard Focus RS enthusiasts will need to shell out £32,265 ($41,827) and let’s face it, most would be hard pressed to find a Focus RS for sale at list price. A three-door Golf R starts at £31,885 ($41,334) and the five-door variant goes for £32,540 ($42,184) each. Granted, both of the aforementioned vehicles do come with all-wheel drive, but if you can do without two extra driven wheels then the Civic Type R is a great option.
On top of being an affordable hot hatch, the new Civic Type R also set a new front-wheel-drive record around the Nordschleife with a 7 minute 43.8 second lap time. Made possible thanks to its six-speed manual gearbox with rev-match control system, 316bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, multi-link rear-suspension and adaptive dampers.
There’s also a better-equipped GT trim available for £32,995 ($42,692)
, which comes with additional electronic and convenience features such as dual zone climate control, auto dimming rear view mirror, Navigation, LED fog lights, upgraded sound system, and blind-spot monitoring.
Get your chequebooks ready because the new Honda Civic Type R is set to appear in UK dealerships this July.
