Leaked Patent Photos Reveal 2016 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe

2016 Honda Civic 2 Door Coupe

Leaked photos from an apparent Honda patent filing have revealed what the eventual production version of the 2016 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe. Honda hasn't come out to officially say that these are indeed from their patent filing, but they look pretty real so let's assume that they are.

The patent renderings show us that the production Civic will have its styling toned a bit, but will still stay pretty true to the styling that the concept presented. The toned down styling can be seen in the removal of the deep front and rear air dams, the rear spoiler, the oversized wheels and the tiny side mirrors. Another area where the toned down styling can be seen is the switch from the concept's all LED headlights to something a bit more conventional.

On the bright side, the very popular tail lights have been kept for the production version. On the coupe version the tail lights span the entire rear end of the vehicle, while the sedan version ditches the light bar going across the trunk.

The sedan and coupe version of the 2016 Civic have the same front end. It is at the rear 2/3s of the vehicle that changes are made to adapt to the expectations of the particular body type. More sporty for the coupe, and more practical for the sedan.

Though there are no patent renders here of it, the patent filing also reveals that a 5-door hatchback is planned.

Some folks were clattering that the sedan was going to be a liftback, but I don't see how that's possible, not to mention honda is fresh off the Crosstour fiasco and Honda has never been a company that comes back for a second licking

Definitely not possible with those cut lines we're seeing of where the trunks lines are.

Anyone think we can see the rear end resemble the B Model concept?

The production sketches above look way too subtle and overly toned down in terms of sportiness, style and overall cool factor.

Not sure why the styling would need to be toned down, the front bumpers on the concept look fantastic and if anything maybe just a height adjustment for better ground clearance on the production models. The production cars can benefit in styling by keeping that edgy and sporty look introduced in the concept.

Examples of current edgy designs on car models that are of importance to their manufacturer due to their popularity and sales : The new Lexus RX, the Mazda 3 and the new Corolla, all have a sporty and edgy front grill and/or front bumper.

I'm just hoping Honda slightly adjusts the front bumper introduced in the concept and adds it to all the production model Civics, so every Civic out there looks bada*s.

My two cents

As mentioned before, Honda is known to keep concept designs similar to what their production versions will end up being like. We'll probably see 80% of what we've seen on the concept.

Overly toned down is what Honda might need to start. They have a number of years to go before the 11th generation civic, chances are as the years go on we might see more cues from concepts pulled

Because while we touch ourselves playing pretend racer and gushing superlatives for 'dat splitter' real people are contemplating if their hard earned dollars are travelling as far as they could. Unfortunately splitter screams superfluous more then it does 'substantial to my overall motor vehicle enjoyment'. Then there is the not so little niggle that 97% of the buying audience simply doesn't shop for sporty, they shop for A to B with the least amount of hassle and responsibility on my part...

Honda has been edgy since the 8th.
