HDMI cable needed for CarPlay?

I'm buying my daughter an EX-T for her birthday and pick it up in a few weeks. The salesman says she'll need an HDMI cable to use CarPlay, but I think I've read elsewhere that no cable is needed and her phone (iPhone 6c) can be connected via Bluetooth on the 10th gen civics - which is correct? Thanks!

While some phones (Samsung) Have HDMI capability, Apple does not, nor does the Civic.
You just use the USB Charging cable to connect. I'd be suspect at buying a car from a salesperson that stupid that they don't know that.

The Hondalink iOS cable is used to display the nav part, but not compatible with 2016 Civic...only 2014 - 2015:

Why compatible with previous Civics, but not the 2016?...stranger than fiction.

It's worse than that. With a simple exploit it's possible to fully mirror a phone onto the indash screen on a 2015 through the HDMI.

2015 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO (it's orange too)

And yet, not compatible with current model...hmmm. Wife has new '16 Pilot, and it's also incompatible...whiskey tango foxtrot?

Quality is key, some people cheap out and buy $1 cords but spending the $10 for something from Best Buy is your best bet, better than dealing with issues. Even better if it's a tangle free cord.
