2016 EX Mileage After One Month

I've had my Civic EX exactly one month now, and my mileage has been floating between 38-40 mpg AVERAGE. Keep in mind that most of my driving is on the highway, but I have to say that I'm beyond satisfied with the savings. I keep the car in Eco mode, use the cruise control religiously and drive very conservatively. I look forward to seeing the long-term difference between the Civic and the truck I drove for the past 12 years. No comparison, really, but when you go from running the highways in a 2002 Tacoma to a 2016 Honda, it's almost like moving from a rowboat to a starship.

Which reminds me: I named my Civic. She's been dubbed "The Enterprise E."

Had mine for a month now, averaging about 34 mpg, mostly mixed driving. I did take a 360 mile round trip, road trip, the speed limit was 70-75 and I drove 80-83 and still got 34.7 mpg.

That's fantastic mileage at those speeds.

That being done on the highway consistently, it is expected to get good mileage.

What helps a lot for the city is finding an RPM range that gives you just enough power to get up to speed and stick with the flow of traffic. Did that with a lot of my cars and I got great mileage. Same method works on highways. If you're not doing that hten you could get even better mileage.

What did you have happening inside the car, radio playing? fan on? etc. If you had accessories like that running then i'm impressed.

AC on, iphone plugged in for CarPlay, ACC LKAS all enabled. Occasionally I would accelerate if I wasnt passing an 18 wheeler fast enough and I saw a car coming up behind me in the left lane. I thought it might do a little better on freeway mileage than my Accord Sport but the same trip came in at 33.8 mpg in the sport. Cant really account for traffic or weather differences, but Im by no means complaining. I do notice when I first fill up and get on the freeway, and only go 70ish, I got it to say 44 mpg on the dash for a 13 mile trip.

I live in Alabama, so my AC stays on pretty much constantly until late November. I play my audiobooks constantly via the onboard bluetooth - I found Apple Car Play to be completely useless. I wouldn't call myself an aggressive driver at all, but I like to get where I'm going. I stick within 4 or 5 mph of the posted limit unless I'm on the interstate in Atlanta, in which case driving that slowly would get me flattened.

Ah, Im a commuter in DFW, I drive 26 miles from home to Downtown Dallas then 26 miles back M-F. I get about 33.5-34 mpg so far the first month. Its half city and half freeway at 70 mph.

Gotcha. I frequently have to drive in downtown ATL, which is a drain on mileage. Still, 33-34 is nothing to scoff at.

Is there a significant jump in fuel economy when eco mode is on and off?

Overall the fact that your a happy camper with what you got is great news. What helps too is you come from a lengthy vehicle ownership history so what you say holds some good weight!

But as you might know, even this new into ownership things might change, maybe slightly, keep us posted on how things go as you rack up more miles.

Thanks.
