Hee hee. I recall someone grafting the hatchback portion of a Vega onto a '69 Camaro to create a "Shooting Brake" as the English call a two door hatchback.
I love 3 door hatches (shooting brake) cars, but there really aren't many on market. The civic used to come in a 3 door back in the 90s (loved that car). I wish VW would bring the Scirocco here, i'd be all over that car with their peppy 1.8T engine from the golf and jetta. They should just do away with the 3 door golf and bring the Scirocco here.

I also love the look of the Kia Pro'Ceed GT 3 door. I don't know why we got the slightly awkward looking (in my opinion) forte, when the rest of the world got a sexy car like the Ceed and Pro'Ceed. They're seriously good looking cars and would probably make me stray from Honda if they were available here.

Had an '83 Civic 3 door hatchback for many many years. Not pretty, but pretty slow with the whopping 87 hp, so stirring the shifter was a must all the time. Fitted it with shop made front air dam and side skirts. With the 13" alloy wheels and a set of 60 series TAs, it was fun to throw around.

These days that generation of Civic is treated like gold! Hard to find them and when you do they are either in horrible condition and super cheap or mint and expensive. Always wanted one of those and an EF civic :D

Part of what I like about the Civic is its history of being a great nameplate. Obviously each car is its own thing, but the name has a great reputation. I just expect that Honda will always do a good job with this model. They have a lot invested into it.

I'm not considering the Cruze, but I can understand why many Civic shoppers will be.

Anyone know if Chevy will make a Cruze SS this generation? I read the other day that a Cruze hatchback IS coming this generation, to battle the new Civic hatch.

Hatchback definitely. Even possibly a turbo diesel model from the current UK lineup may make its way here. Somehow i doubt an SS model, but who knows...

Much prefer the older model as it actually has style. The new one is just blah, another look-a-like compact car. How the Volt designers managed to make a great looking car while the Cruze designers made this uninteresting blob, I'll never know.

Test drove a current style Cruze Eco and was pretty tempted to buy one, but felt the price was too high for the cheapness of the interior.

The second gen. Cruze shape is largely due to getting it to pass the small offset crash test that the first gen/ Cruze could not. I shopped the Civic and Cruze throughout 2011 & 2012. After two years, I had amassed nearly four dozen common problems with the Cruze and many were design issues with the powertrain. Needless to say, I bought a Civic, and not sorry I did. Will be interesting to see if GM fixed all of the problems with the next gen. Cruze. I still would not buy one during the first two years of production.

Yes the front is more similar, but it's in the details where the Volt looks better. Putting aside the better looking grill covers, since the Cruze needs the airflow and the Volt doesn't, as much, there are small things like more body color on the front by the fog lights where the Cruze has a massive plasticky eyesore, the Cruze's mirrors have black up to halfway where the Volt is more tastefully on the bottom side and come from the dark window area instead of being tacked on the door like an afterthought. Also, the Volt has a slightly wider chrome trim across the top of the side windows where the Cruze has a slimmer trim around the whole window area, looking cheap. The Volt's hood has more and better character to it, while the Cruze has a few simple creases.

Another thing is the (maybe not so) recent trend for headlights to continue out from the body work, which looks terrible in most cases, IMO. The Cruze does this while the Volt is nice and trim.

Add up all the little things and you see where the Cruze is just uninteresting.

Try differentiating a first gen. Cruze from a Malibu at 50 feet. They gotta have that "family" look.

While it may be a downside that design on the two is too similar, it can be seen as a smart move since for volume products there's far more people will car about than design and it's not like someone will think less of their volt because it looks a lot like a Cruze. Plus you can even look at the two as versions of each other in a way Cruze if you want something petrol powered or Volt if you want electric.

The Emperor's New Clothes

Chevy finally get a style design that makes up for Cavalier, Cobalt and the early Cruze models and then they have to go and simply duplicate it on the Volt. Really Chevy? Really? No one is buying that these two cars are different. A party foul has been decried!!!

It's kinda funny because I think it's almost better to be second in sales numbers or some other way of being up and coming. Once you are at the top, it's only a matter of time before you find yourself heading back towards the bottom again. This is true of mainstream cars and luxury cars. People want the trendy cool car, but not the one that everyone already has. Humans love to be unique.
I concur 100%
