While the 2016 Civic Sedan has become a known quantity over the last week, the attention of enthusiasts and Civic Nation turn to the 2016 Civic Coupe but more importantly, the Si trim.
Honda has a long history with the SEMA show. The 2003 Civic Si debut at SEMA 2002, they took a break with the 8th gen, showing both the Si coupe and sedan concepts at the Chicago Auto Show one year apart. In 2011 both the Coupe and Sedan Si concepts debuted at the Detroit Auto Show. Honda once again returned to SEMA in 2013 debuting the warmed over 9th gen Si coupe.
So what about the 10th Gen?
Well there have been no announcements as of yet, but in all honesty, that's the Honda way.
To give you some context, in 2013 the media was only made aware of the upcoming Si debut on October 25th 2013, 10 days before the show opened. Fast forward to today, October 23rd, 2015 and we are exactly 10 days out from SEMA 2015.
Today, Honda sent out a press release:
Now we know that there has been no explicit confirmation of an Si or a coupe at SEMA, lets forget about the coupe for a minute. Could Honda be showing us the Si Sedan first?Honda will ignite the floor at the 2015 SEMA Show with a full portfolio of performance products, including race bikes, HR-V project vehicles, and the debut of the Ridgeline Desert Race Truck. The Ridgeline Desert Race Truck will offer a first look at the styling direction of the highly anticipated 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup. The "racing Ridgeline" also marks Honda's re-entry into Honda Performance Development (HPD)-powered factory off-road racing.
Also within the Honda display will be four Honda HR-V project vehicles, built in partnership with several highly creative U.S.-based automotive tuning houses. The refreshed 2016 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid coupe, complete with aggressive new exterior styling details and significantly improved interior, will also be highlighted in Honda's 2015 SEMA showcase, along with an accessorized version of the all-new 2016 Honda Civic Sedan and 2016 Honda Pilot. Further demonstrating the broad range of performance products and racing activities that only Honda can boast, Honda Powersports and HPD will also showcase many of their wares, including the Pioneer 1000 Side-by-Side in matching desert race livery, the Moto GP Race Replica RC213V-S, the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing IndyCar display, and much more.
The reason we suspect such is the language used, " an accessorized version of the all-new 2016 Honda Civic Sedan" will be present at the show. In the past Honda has used SEMA as its launch pad for Si's in order to show off the aftermarket versatility of the Si.
None of this is a confirmation, we know that, but it does at least whet our appetites for rhe Honda press conference on Nov. 3rd at 9:35 a.m. PDT, 12:35 ET.
