2016 Hatchback Lonely One

Hi All,

I love the new Civic. The style really is nice. As a outdoor person who likes to hike/camp/mtn. bike and camp, the Hatchback is the practical choice for me.

Oh what I wouldn't give to get an Si Hatchback if they made one..

I know it is a year away but, I love the new civic style so I dropped the idea of a GTI for the new civic. I noticed there isn't much discussion here on the hatchback. I'm hoping that will change in time. Mean while I will enjoy the Forums, listen and learn.

Glad To Be Here,

Becky

I've only ever owned hatchbacks. I'm excited to see Honda bringing back the hatch. Though I'm lucky enough to afford a Type R if I want to. An Si hatch would probably be a more practical choice, if it were available.

You're not alone!

I'd guess the hatch will be released around summer of 2016 since the coupe is next and would likely be out in spring followed by Si, which I'm guessing around April/May. And lastly, Type-R which would probably be out in late fall next year as a 2017 model. Just my guesses.
I wouldn't count on the Hatch being here until very very end of this year or early next year as the Euro hatch JUST underwent a refresh, so it has at least a full year to run still. If they were building the hatches here it might be sooner, but because the Swindon plant in the UK is building and importing them here, we have to wait for the UK timeline on their civic which is a year behind ours.

I'm thinking mid 2016 anyway. Looked at Ford Focus ST, GTI 2015 and even a Forester. I have always been partial to skate designs (wagonish styles) for their functionality. Hoping mods will be available to personalize the ride..

The nice thing about the global platform is that many of the mods will be universal for all body styles (except for anything on the back ends, since those are all unique) but any engine or front end mods and interior mods will be universal across the lineup. And with the new tech and performance of this civic i have a feeling aftermarket support will be great.

Hey Becky welcome to the boards! We just don't have much information available to us yet about the hatchback!! Trust me, there are more then a few of us here who are just as eager to know what Honda has in store for us!!!

Where are you located BTW?

They sound fairly accurate TBH...although do consider the Hatch is tied to the current Euro Civic's life cycle

Welcome to the boards as well!

going for the hatch as well:
when you guys say mid 2016
do you think the hatch will be available globally
or will it be US first and Europe have to wait another few months?

I doubt it'll be that early... think late 2016... most likely because, the US is only getting a limited production number of hatches (until honda knows how well they'll sell) while the UK will still get 90% of the hatches built there since that's their only model. So i'd imagine we'll get the hatch AFTER they have it and they get the plant up and running 100% to build enough stock to ship some over.

Drat. Makes me feel like the ugly stepchild I'm not. My most anticipated piece of information is how sloped the rear is. Hoping they don't slop the rear down too much. That would eliminate storage capacity and muck up the roof line.

Well we've seen the hatch testing in Type R guise recently on the 'ring, so that shows how sloped the back window will be. If you look at the 9th and 8th gen hatches from the UK they have the same sloped double rear windows.

I'm excited to see the hatch too even though i'm in it for the coupe. Honda has surprised us thus far, so who knows what they'll do regarding the hatch at this point... my best guess is a year from now. But they could surprise and do it sooner just for the US stores, but that's a big BUT. lol.

so you think a year, maybe sooner
but not later, right, right, right?
