2016 Honda Civic EX-L 1.5T Engine Problem!!

My Civic has been having issues for the past week. Today it just out right shut off coming off the interstate. Now it won't turn over and if it does it's very short lived (5 seconds or less).
This is also followed by some smoking that seems like it's coming from the left side of the engine, maybe the back left side (hard to pinpoint exactly).
I am not sure what the problem is qnd don't exactly have the money to bring it to a mechanic atm. I ordered a reasonably priced diagnostic tool that'll be here Thursday, but I'm looking for any input or Ideas as to what may be the problem or cause of the problem.
