New spy photos are in showing the upcoming Honda Civic.

This Honda Civic Hatchback mule was spotted on the streets of Germany, wearing British registration plates and an Acura front end. At the back end, styling mimics the current Civic hatchback, though from the hood to the back axle it appears to be an Acura ILX. This is assumably a Civic prototype, although based on looks, it may just be a powertrain or electronics mule that was cobbled together to hide its true intent.

Styling for the new Civic was recently teased by a concept that was shown at the 2015 New York Auto Show, revealing an angular aggressive look. The new Civic is expected to be lighter and larger than its predecessor, which will help fill a gap in some European markets where the Accord will be discontinued. An all-new platform will underpin the new Civic, which will be now be a global vehicle.

In North America, Honda has already confirmed it will offer a Civic sedan and hatchback along with the high-performance Type R model.

A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder will be offered in the new Civic along with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four banger. A six-speed manual or a CVT will be offered.

Not really seeing anything special going on with these spy pictures. Was expecting Honda do deliver big changes with the look of the generation of Civics.

Keep in mind this is a test mule, sending it out into the wild like they are here, knowingly in public, they'll show you how much they want to, enough to get a juicy story going. With the mash up of exteriors going on, it's clear they're trying hint at a Civic unlike anything we've seen, which is what the 10th gen is slowing shaping up to be.
a publication reportedly ran a background check on the license plate and found out it was registered in the UK on Feb 1st 2015 as a Honda with a 1.5L Engine (Gasoline).

this very same 1.5-liter engine announced in New York!
It is quite a mash up of different vehicles. Notice that it has UK plates, but has a left-hand drive layout. its purposely meant to confuse people a bit and make them not know what to expect in the end. That's probably smart since it keeps people interested. This was just enough to keep people watching but not so much that they feel they know all they need to.

Yes its a mule, so don't get too confortable with the ILX front end. Way to go Honda, trying to keep everything mixed up. This is just another teaser to keep us locked on.

How do you guys feel about the lift back?

Yeah that's true. I know that the spy pictures don't really do justice for the Civic but they still give a bit of understanding towards the general shape. I guess we'll just have to be patient and wait for more leaks to come out.

i like the lift back
fortunately it doesn't veer too far away from what a sedan is like, just has a lift back integrated.

improved cargo should please a lot of people.
This mule doesn't tell you anything. Waste of everyone's time. Come on Honda, just unveil the car already!

It just what they want.

A big hint, watered down, just something to keep us talking while we wait.

Good play on their part!

I guess it does give us something to talk about. :D
I've actually heard a few people rumbling that this may not be a civic mule, but a testbed for the upcoming S1000 or S2000. I mean look how they BLACKED out the rear windows and what does the extra hump/hatch need to be there for? You could argue that there is a mid mounted engine back there ;)

Hopefully it is.
Honda is long over due for an S2000.
Was shocked to see they discontinued it when they did without a next generation that followed.

Maybe eventually we'll see it morf into something that looks like this:

or become an even weirder mash-up like the FR-S/BRZ mule:
