2017 Civic X Hatchback Production In Action

Honda’s next generation hatchback is coming and it’s already going through the production line at their Sunderland factory.

They’ve released a 15 minute promotional video showing us how a Civic hatchback is produced from start to finish and it’s awesome! The hatchback hasn’t even made its debut yet as it’s slated for the upcoming Paris motor show so this is a real treat. We can see an army of mechanical arms stamping, welding, painting and assembling hatchbacks that are destined for showroom floors.

Some assembly videos only show us a few minutes of footage but there’s plenty to squeeze in with a 15 minute video including several technicians assembling the front and rear suspension systems together or a team meticulously going over ever painted body to make sure it’s smooth. The plant may have had to shrink the Sunderland workforce due to previous low demands for the hatchback in Europe but there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of technicians for quality control now.

Based on same platform as the US market sedan and coupe, the Civic X hatchback will be sporting the same 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and offer CVT or six-speed manual transmission.

The Civic X hatchback will debut at the Paris motor show and the new Civic Type R next year.

Always liked seeing behind the scenes footage like this but even better is Honda explaining some of the processes behind what they're doing which can put more confidence in the product and understanding which when shopping around can matter if you're a long-term buyer.
These are fun. The final edition EVO video was pretty cool also.

The painting process is what interests me the most, just seeing the layers go on and transforming a boring frame into what your final car mostly looks like.
I only watch these videos for the painting process. The rest of it, I don't really care to see. But nonetheless, it's a cool "how it's made" kind of thing.

Weird... I remember posting this earlier though.

IMO painting process is the least interesting since what we get is mediocre, nothing complex that involves an interesting process, this is a mass produced car that everyone and their mother will be driving.
Lol, guess watching paint being applied is akin to watching paint dry for some people.

For some reason, I always thought the engine is lowered into the engine bay or the body itself is lowered onto the engine. Didn't think they insert it from the front before adding the bumper.

With that being said, this whole video is mediocre along with majority of the other ones lol.
it is the first we're seeing from Honda so it's a start, being this early on in the process we'll likely see more.
with all the shows coming up, once they pass, we can expect to see more promos.
Can't wait for Honda to release some real hatchback promos to show off everything the 5 door has to offer, especially the cargo space.
