With all the Type R conjecture floating around, Chris Martin PR man at AHM has just politely told everyone to STFU.

EarthDreams” engine in it’s world- engine arsenal, no plans for the sale of, or inclusion of the 2.0 Liter Turbo is (currently) scheduled as an option for any Honda car or light trucks manufactured in or imported to the U.S.
Furthermore, any news of a pending product modification, option or introduction of a new car model to U.S. markets prior to an official announcement from Honda Motors should be considered nothing more than a rumor.
Reading between the lines what he's saying is THIS Type R and the 2.0T are not in the cards until AT LEAST sometime after the 10th gen launches.

It's funny though. Despite this, I think that people love rumors, and they will continue to spread the rumor even in the face of information that in contradictory.

Good to know though. Thank you for posting this up.

If anything it's good for them, adding to the hype and possibly stopping some people from moving onto some other compact and rather waiting to see what this next generation civic turns out to be like.

Kinda reminds me of how Bill Clinton said he did not have sex with that woman. People can say anything. Whether or not it is true is a different story. Even a Honda representative. Maybe it is a marketing ploy to not reveal their hand before they play it.

you make it seem like there are bucket loads of people just waiting to snap up these cars, if your narrative was true the FRS would be volume leader...

I said "some people"

Not sure where you got "bucket loads of people" from.

I have accepted at this point that the Type R won't be coming to North America. I will be pleasantly surprised if it does come.

That's my point, we're talking about a nearly insignificant tranche of buyers to the companies bottom line. Halo effect be damned, why would they focus on these people if they're not the one keeping the lights on...

Good question, especially when Honda doesn't seem to be doing as well as they should be, or at least that's what it seems to be.

elements of it could make it's way into the civic we're getting.
one thing i'd like to see is LED tubes in the tail lights.
that tech has been around long enough for it to trickle down to the level the civic is at.

yes but how much cost increase vs traditional does that induce? on a low volume model the cost is more digestible as you have the cheaper cost volume model to absorb the costs...

There has been very recent developments in lighting technology that should give companies the ability to do some brand new things with lighting. BMW is showing off new "laserlights" at CES and I'm pretty sure this tech is available to other companies as well. The shapes and scale of lighting is now far more easy to work with.

Now that seems possible to make it's way to market within good timing as all it really requires is LED tubing and shaping it like that, and LED tubes have been on the market for over a decade now, dating back to when the E60 5 series started to hit the market. Just a matter of them getting creative and adding it to the right vehicle.

after going through event coverage from the detroit show... it seems like other car makers already have this too, just in their own unique way. buick was on of them with what looked like their version of a porsche panamera.
