Since at this stage of the Civic I doubt Honda will say or show much about Android Auto, here's Androids website on Android Auto, should help to get a greater sense of what we should expect in the Civic:

I'm more concerned with Apple Carplay. (iphone user here) but i've seen a few stray images online and it basically just looks like a simplified version of my phones home screen, which is cool.

Correct, it will be the same as it is on the 2016 Accords. Very nice though! Online they have a page that shows you what iPhone apps are accessible through the Apple CarPlay
All head units that are Android Auto/Carplay compatible will exhibit the exact same behavior. Whether Honda, VW or aftermarket Pioneer; the splash screen and navigation of the menus are identical.

When Apple or Google update the interface/apps on the phones, the vehicle head unit will automatically reflect the latest and greatest. Audio and EQ controls will still be proprietary to each manufacturer.

Not able to connect Android Auto to Honda Civic 2016

I am not able to connect Android Auto to Honda Civic 2016.
Has anyone done this successfully?
Only a limited number of my iPhone 6 apps show up on my apple carplay screen. Even though they are on the home screen on my iPhone, they do not show up on carplay when active. How do I select which apps show up on carplay?

Your phone has to be running Android 5.0 or newer. You also need to download the Android Auto app from the Google Play store and then you will be good to go.

Apple Carplay apps are specially approved applications. Very strict guidelines for user interface and they have (or require) very limited UI navigation. There is a separate app approval process through Apple and so far very few apps are released. If an app on your phone is Carplay approved, it is my understanding it would appear on the carplay menu.

Waze seems to be the universal desired Carplay app :)

Only "approved" apps are displayed. This is common to both Android Auto and CarPlay. Neither Apple nor Google want to enable you playing Candy Crush from your steering wheel buttons. So somehow they pick which apps you can see in the auto environment.
@Razer My phone does have Android Lollipop and It is running Android Auto.

Which phone do you have? And how did you connect it?
