I was originally going for this color, but when I saw it in person it looked black. In bright sunlight it will looks eggplant color, but anything else, it will look black :(

Over time a good portion of these you see on the street might look more black since the sun impacts how color holds up over time and not many people get color correction done.

I would imagine the sun might actually lighten the paint and bring more purple through

Every other color isn't necessarily plain, it's down to personal preference and the burgundy has a hint of purple in certain lighting. An elegant color.

It is plain, it's the default color that most people gravitate to which is what you see on most basic commuter cars. It's when you get into the higher price range that things really start to change. But that's not to say those default colors people go with aren't good.

Honestly, looking across the expanse of my work parking lot i see a sea of black, gray, white, silver and tan/champagne. Even colors like dark blue or blue gray blend in.

Aegean blue and the energy green as well as the red colors available are the ones that stand out and make a statement. Like you said, the other colors look nice too, the civic is a great looking car in general. But the brighter, less common colors are the ones that stand out, take notice and catch the corner of someone eye in passing. I'd be all over the burgundy night pearl (if it was offered on the coupe) but having seen it in person wish it was just 1 or 2 shades lighter, closer to the purple on the Fit (but not quite that bright either).

Kind of reminds of when someone says

" Do you mind if I tell you something you might not like"

or

"Don't take this the wrong way but..........."

Default colors are more black, white and silver not burgundy and the Burgundy Night Pearl Civic looks amazing in real life, especially when the sun hits it just right to bring out the purple.

Someone uploaded a walk around of the burgundy and it looks great.
