I think this is the start of the hatchback review wave. Driving.ca recently published a review of a Civic LX hatchback with a 6 speed manual transmission.

They do have a way with words ;)

creating an arresting visual design that’s sure to alienate some buyers while endearing itself to others.
With how spacious of an interior it has i'm afraid too many of these will end up being part of car sharing services, run to the ground and just end up devaluing these hatches entirely.

On the flip side guys looking to turn one into a project car will eventually have something cheap enough that will be guilt-free to build on. Maybe that's when we'll see a rise in Type R clones.
They probably will be used by a lot of people for car sharing/uber-like uses. Kind of a bittersweet thing I guess ? I wouldn't mind later on buying a really run-down one just to gut it completely and track beast it.
Speaking of rental, I was rented a car the past weekend and there weren't any of the new civics at all to choose from. If they don't have the sedan or coupe, how likely are rental companies going to get the civic hatchback?

Historically speaking, honda doesn't sell it's cars for fleet use very much, especially compared to say, toyota, chrysler, hyundai.... Hence why honda always gets pissy about Toyota's yearly sales numbers beating theirs, because toyota includes it's fleet sales (which they use to make up their yearly sales deficits in order to appear more popular than they are) So you probably won't see many if any civics of any body style on rental lots.
I tried to rent a civic when my Ridgeline was out of service for air bag replacement. The rental place laughed and said honda wont give them a penny off the sticker price so they don't deal with them.

That benefits us all, thank you Honda !
I guess that helps with depreciation when there are less of them roaming around. I found another review and it's from Autoguide. http://www.autoguide.com/manufacturer/honda/2017-honda-civic-hatchback-review

If anyone is wondering about the manual clutch engagement point/bite point, the editor answered this question: "The engagement point is pretty well defined despite how light the pedal is."
