Our friends over at AutoGuide have chosen the all new 10th gen Civic as their 2016 Car of the Year!

“Congratulations to the team at Honda,” said AutoGuide Group Editorial Director Colum Wood. “The new Civic is easily the best all-around package I’ve driven, not just this year, but in a very long time. It’s premium, yet sporty, and I just love that new turbocharged engine. A car that’s this good, with Honda’s reputation for quality, reliability and durability, just doesn’t come along every day.”

We know Honda benchmarked far more upscale cars when developing the 2016 Civic and it shows; beating out the brand new Mustang Shelby GT350.

Surprised it beat the Shelby just because Mustang ;)
"Benchmarked far more upscale cars..."

Do we have any idea what cars it would have looked to as its benchmarks then?
Apparently they didn't ever attempt to use the headunit in that Touring :)
They don't need to! :D
Nah, I'm sure they did at some point to test it out. Not really surprised the civic won. It's the perfect package, Sure the Miata and Mustang had more power but the Civic is just the best option out of them all for the average driver.

A but surprised the Toyota Prius made the list, it's ugly. Reliable and fuel sipping but ugly.
I'll just take this as their opinion. For all we know there could be a bias towards the Honda or something else influencing it ;)

Going to be cross referencing what these guys report to what other publications report.

If power is something that heavily factors into the decision, we should acknowledge that the Si has not come out yet and it will be more competitive with the power of the other vehicles that the Civic has been pitted against.
Will be interesting to see which models make the list next year. The Honda Civic coupe is coming out along with the Si.
Excited to see when the Type R finally comes out and how it ranks among some vehicles like this, especially the Focus RS.
Really guys... really? Did you think this was not going to happen?
Assumed the 10th Gen civic would rank high if not outright win but I can't really know for sure if it'll definitely win.

No, Honda spends a ton of ad dollars on AG ;)

I am also waiting patiently.
I'd like to think this competition was unbiased. The 10th Gen Honda civic is a great car for a great price and the Touring package has pretty much everything you need. Not sure about the Type R vs the Focus RS in the future.
Thought I'd post a follow-up to it. They just actually presented the award in person, so we have this totally not awkward photo.

At Honda’s annual Detroit holiday party, Wood delivered the award to Honda Motor America President and CEO Takuji Yamada and company Senior Vice President and General Manager Jeff Conrad.

Honda probably has a room full of awards at this point. Jeff Conrad looks a lot less awkward than the other two.
Yea the picture is weird, but at the end of the day its fun for each publication to choose a car of the year, and its pretty cool they actually got to give him an award, though let's be honest, I'm sure the CEO of Honda has received an infinite amount of awards that are more exciting.

That's because he's the one touching Colums bum ;)
