Exciting news! The Honda Civic Type R Prototype has set a new FWD record at the Nurburgring. The record specifically is for the quickest front-wheel drive car to lap the Nurburgring.

A 310 horsepower Civic lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 50.63 seconds. That beats out the previous record holder, the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R, which did the lap in 7 minutes 54 seconds.

Apparently the lap was actually done in May, but it is only being released now to coincide with the debut of the production Civic Type R in Geneva.

ahh they should have done a better job at capturing sound coming from the engine, making for an even better marketing effort.

its actually double impressive because the Megane is a stripper street special, while the Type R doesn't force you to sacrifice content for speed...

They should have an official time instead of manufacturers measuring their own results. It would just give a bit more credence to a result like this, which obviously many people care quite a bit about.

What do you mean an official time?

Like a time that is measured by a third party instead of by the manufacturers themselves. This way the time would have more legitimacy as an actual record as it could not be either altered by manufacturers, or the manufacturer could just be using a different clock that may measure time slightly differently. Basically it would be for standardization and to remove the possibility of cheating.

Concept looks so much better.

So aside from the lights, what has changed? Well, the production car loses the concept’s cool blade-like LED daytime-running lights and the headlight cluster is also a lot more conventional looking; the LED blades are replaced with old-school projector lamps.

some aftermarket company needs to make their own version of that lighting assembly
