Civic X Type R Details Emerging

The 10th generation Civic Type R is still about a year out from market debut and it's been spied several times in the last few weeks.

Running around Europe with a hodgepodge of body panels the first US bound CTR isn't all subterfuege. Automotive News is reporting that the wrap around lights seen on the Type R mules are in fact production kit. They offer no explanation for the triple tail pipes but do make mention of big and bold Brembos.

Lastly they mention that the US bound Type R could potentially make use of the 8-speed DCT on offer in the ILX and TLX.

But before we get too ahead of ourselves the rest of the Civic X lineup will begin its slow trickle to show rooms next week.

Next week will be a hectic week of new model releases/debuts because of the Frankfurt Auto Show and the online debut of the 2016 Honda Civic sedan. Can't wait for it!

I noticed that too. I don't know if that's just the width difference between the ILX and the new civic in general or if the Type R specifically is that much wider/has a staggered stance (isn't that usually done on the back, not the front?)

If it is just to compensate for how wide all the new civics are that's pretty telling about how wide the new civic is. The current civic is 69 inches wide. The ILX is 70.6 inches wide. Those flares look to add a good 2-3 inches which would put the civic's width at about 73 inches or more. The current accord is 72.8 inches wide....

I figured most of the growth for the civic would be in width as opposed to length. That kind of width will lower the center of gravity alot and really make it hug the road.
That light bar should look awesome at night, and the whole thing should light up unlike in the past where the middle section was just a reflector.

Something that should stand out as much as the new charger does.
Looks like it is a sedan as opposed to a hatchback. I thought the Type R is usually a hatchback.

It is. And this is a hatchback. That back end is identical (other than the tail light bar) to the current gen euro hatch. It's a split rear window design like the CRZ has. It just looks a bit lower because it's on an ILX body which slopes more in the back.

To me it looks like a 2012 Euro hatch... In fact, I think the rear is a 2012 euro hatch...

Yep. which makes me doubt the sources saying that the taillight bar is production spec. I doubt honda would recycle the tails from a 2012 car on the 2016 civic. Granted it might be a similar setup, but it won't be exactly the same.

Agreed, the unit on the proto is not proddy spec. But I do believe all three will feature the light bar... just a feeling, I don't know...
They may not be keeping the light bar that goes across the length of the back. The 2015 Civic Hatchback rear has the light bar separated into 3 parts. Maybe the newer models will follow this trend.

Maybe... but we know the coupe will have the bar across the back... I can definitely see all three carrying that as a common link... but then again, It could also be similar to the 4th gen Accord coupe which aped the original NSX... so maybe something similar...

Well the sedan doesn't have the light bar. It's taillights flow up onto the trunk and then stop without touching eachother, so currently the coupe is the only one with the light bar. BUT. Quite a few of the euro hatches have had light bars or at least a reflector connecting them. So i could see them doing a light bar for the hatch.
