This is just meant to be fun, and possibly engage some new speculation into the potential of the new civic. Here are 6 categories of the new civic. With each list the car(s) it should benchmark or surpass to make it truly a return to hondas of old and lift it up to class leading again... with some ideas of realism. lol.
Handling numbers: Ford Focus
Handling (fun to drive): Mazda 3
0-60 time: Focus, 3, Golf, Forte 2.0T (they're all within .4 of eachother)
interior quality: 2016 Chevy Cruze, VW Golf
Tech/features: Kia Forte/Hyundai Elantra
Value: Kia Forte
Do i think honda will focus on all of these? Nope. They're definitely going for "fun to drive" and tech/features with this new civic, along with sporty styling. I think the 0-60 will be secondary to the "feel" of the car as well as EPA numbers obviously, but the 3 and the focus both match the civic in MPGs while being notably more powerful, so it's not that big of a stretch to imagine that the new 2.0L and 1.5T will be class competitive in power (155-175 hp). But we all know fun to drive doesn't have to mean fastest either, but we'd all like to see a bit more grunt behind the civic i think.
Definitely going to see tech features a plenty in this civic. Catching up with the value of kia and hyundai that offer so much tech for so little money will be a big one for honda on this car (and all their cars from here out). Interior quality definitely won't get worse than the current car, but i doubt it'll be VW quality either.
Your turn! Did i hit the nail on the head? Or am i forgetting competition? Are there other cars in this class you'd like to see benchmarked for other things?
