26/38/ 31 2.0 manual
30/41/ 34 1.5 cvt These are less than the sedans.
Less frontal area because it is shorter, but more drag because it is shorter?
The manual took a big mpg hit.

oops ! the only different number is cvt sedan 42 , coupe 41
(I wrongly thought the manual achieved better.)
30/41/ 34 is pretty good for a CVT coupe. Is that large mpg different between cvt and manual a normal occurrence?
Even MPG's with manual isn't that bad, probably amounts to someone paying a few dollars more per fill up which is worth it for someone who really needs a shifter.

But the way some manual transmission drivers drive... it will vary :D

Wouldn't a shorter frontal area have less drag?
It's probably the shape. The back end is a little smaller. The front end is a tad more toned down. I thought the engine tune was a little different too. Final drive ratio could be just a tad lower because of the extra weight.

Mostly I'd say it's engine tuning.
