Fortunately while we wait there's a chance that some information might leak. LA Auto Show is in November, it's supposed to make an appearance there and we're almost in september.

yeah, I remember that conversation, can't wait for the next generation model to come out that's apparently going to get a boosted engine.

I'm also looking forward to it. Hoping that it will really lift up the model because in the past it really hasn't performed that well sales-wise.

Most of what i read online so far, they aren't think there will be any kind of mechanical changes other than very minor suspension/drivetrain tweaks. No power increase etc. as the all new version comes out in 2 years. From what photos leaked it looks like its getting the new 7inch touch screen standard which will help fill up the dash some (it was a bit sparse). Pretty much all cosmetic to keep it fresh until the full redesign with new (read: hopefully alot more) power. I doubt it'll really help or hinder its sales all that much as in typical honda fashion they won't even advertise the car as being changed at all so it'll continue to fly under the radar.

while there might not be those changes, chances are weight will be shed, just not sure by how much since its tough to say how much they can shed.

Right? They could replace the hood with a new aluminum hood, that would save a few pounds... they might take the back seats out of the japanese version, but ours already doesn't have those... not a ton they can do to shed weight and keep the car mostly in tact as is.

Aluminium hood would definitely bring the price up a bit, do you think that is a pill that most potential customers will be willing to swallow?

The refreshed accord has a new aluminum hood.... i assume the new civic will too. Most likely customers don't even realize...

Aluminum is great for reducing the weight of a car and increasing mpg but I'm not sure if I want my hood to be made completely of aluminum. Heard it was hard to work with if you wanted to fix it. You can easily fix steel hoods but if you want to fix aluminum the auto body shop will need a special room for it to separate the steel from aluminum. Something about iron oxide particles contaminating the aluminum and making it hard for paint to adhere to it.

That's why only certain shops are qualified to work on VW and Audi, because they've been using aluminum and steel combination for years now. And yes, if the two materials touch they corrode and rust. More and more shops have been and will be going this route as more car makers start to use aluminum. No doubt honda itself will be training its technicians and updating their garages to be able to do repairs as well.

It is true its harder to work with in terms of getting out small dents and dings. Many times it results in the whole body panel having to be replaced which can raise insurance rates. But in a world of ever increasing weight and size of cars but demand for higher CAFE standards, aluminum is the cheapest route to go until things like carbon fiber become a more affordable solution to weight saving.
