The National Insurance Crime Bureau reports that the Honda Accord and Civic are the most stolen vehicles in America. It reports that a total of 51,290 Honda Accords and 43,936 Civics were stolen in 2014.

The data comes from police reports collected from around the country. On the bright side, vehicle theft is down in America on the whole.

As far as 2014 model year vehicles that are stolen most, the Ford F-150 sits at the top of the list.

I think they are they most stolen vehicles because of the large amount of units available but that's what insurance is for. It stinks but there's not much you can do once it's been stolen unless your car has a GPS tracker that the police can use.
Will the new honda civic come with a GPS tracker?

If i'm not mistaken, the current civic and the 8th gen had radio based GPS systems that, in the event of being stolen, you call honda and they can kill the engine in the car. Doesn't really promise you'll see the car again, but whoever stole it is royally screwed when the engine just cuts off and won't come back on.
most stolen vehicles are old vehicles!

"quick get rid of all the old cars before we all become victims of theft, they also run the risk of exploding in the event you want to set your dash clock... can we interest you in a shiny 2016?"

That's something i was thinking, does the article actually specify that NEW civics and accords were the most stolen cars? Or are they just generalizing to every single car on the road regardless of year... i'm sure honda's now are alot harder to break into, hardwire and steal than their 90s predecessors were...

And like someone else mentioned... you have to take into account the amount of these cars on the road (especially older ones because they're so reliable! ;D) and then take into account the types of areas people own and drive older hondas and it makes sense they'd probably get stolen alot.

Oh totally a factor as well... anecdotally the delivery driver that showed up at my house last night with dinner was driving a early 90 accord sedan with mismatched body panels, the wheels matched though. I'd steal that if I needed too...

In other news I did see a MINTY second gen prelude in one of the nicer areas as I was out for my morning ride earlier...

Its general Civics and Accords. If you look in the opening post, he states at the end what the newer most stolen vehicles are.
Wonder if there's a high concentration of Honda Civics in a certain state too.
Here's a list of the 10 Cities in America where you are most likely to have your car stolen and if you're in California, good luck.
10. San Jose – Sunnyvale – Santa Clara, California
9. Fresno, California
8. Seattle – Tacoma – Bellevue, Washington
7. Vallejo – Fairfield, California
6. Spokane – Spokane Valley, Washington
5. Modesto, California
4. Odessa, Texas
3. Stockton – Lodi, California
2. Bakersfield, California
1. San Francisco – Oakland – Hayward, California
California and Washington. I wonder why? California makes sense because its a huge car culture so I imagine chop shops are common as well.

nah its not car culture...it's just Oakland ;)
I've seen video's of what happens in oakland... not the place you'd want to go LOL.
What happens in Oakland? Are they videos of cars being stolen off the streets?
I kinda think of Oakland as similar to Grand Theft Auto. Cars just being stolen left and right. Taken to chop shops. I can't see what else would happening to these stolen vehicles.
