In reality any of those cars could win but if the Civic puts up great city / combined / highway mpg I believe it could stand a great chance. Honda in itself has some of the most green manufacturing processes as well.

It's a wide open field this year for the 2016 Green Car of the Year Award. Previous years have seen the award go to Volkswagen diesel powered vehicles, the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI and the 2010 Audi A3 TDI. These titles have recently been stripped from the automaker however.
So which vehicles are being considered for this year's award? Here is the list of the nominees:
Audi A3 e-tron
Chevrolet Volt
Honda Civic
Hyundai Sonata
Toyota Prius
The winner of the grand prize will be announced at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
Not exactly sure what the criteria is though. I'm think it is simply a jury vote. I'm surprised that there is no Tesla Model X on the list. And the Toyota Mirai would also have been an interesting model to include.
I'm curious how much the manufacturing process is taken into account. I don't know tons about the specific practices that are employed in the production of each vehicle. The Volt stands out to me because it is relatively affordable and electric. That seems pretty unique to me as far as what's on the market at the moment. In reality any of those cars could win but if the Civic puts up great city / combined / highway mpg I believe it could stand a great chance. I am not aware of specific manufacturing processes Honda uses other than a very efficient water based paint shop. That was from a good reading. I am sure this award figures in the amount of energy it takes to produce the car and how the manufacturing process has an environmental impact.I'm curious how much the manufacturing process is taken into account. I think that is because of what vehicles are able to be nominated. It is probably something to do with vehicles that will be on sale in the year of 2016. So mostly it is vehicles that are still upcoming.Interesting that most of the cars on the list won't be for sale until next year?? And even the Civic will have just gone on sale as the award is handed out.
