Starting July 14, interested buyers in Canada can get their hands on a performance-tuned Civic Type R for a starting price of $40,890 (plus $1,595 in delivery fees).
This is the model North America has been waiting for and sales in the U.S. has just recently started. Soon Canadians can get their own, but demand for the hot hatch may outstrip supply. Forum member TypeR_500 purchased one earlier this month, but at an inflated price. It's unfortunate, but with popular models like the Type R, some price gouging is to be expected and other U.S. dealers are trying to sell above sticker as well.
No surprised when the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine is tuned to crank out 306 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. Mated to a short-throw six-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching capabilities, the Type R is surprisingly fuel efficient with a city fuel economy rating of 10.6 L/100km and 8.3 L/100 km on highways.
Specs aside, Canadian Type R buyers can customize their hot hatches with OEM accessories including body side moldings ($267.51), rear bumper applique ($103.24), door sill trim ($310), illuminated console ($356.19) and more.
Let’s hope Canadian dealers won’t sell their stock of hot hatches with aggressive mark-ups as well.
