Honda has announced that they will be offering the Civic Type-R to folks that live down under. Honda Australia director Stephen Collins confirmed to CarAdvice that the Civic Type-R will be available in the country, though specific timing wasn't divulged.

“We are trying to confirm timing and therefore have not officially announced as yet,” Collins told us today. “It’s a matter of when not if — it will return to Australia for sure. [We] Should be able to confirm timing in the next few months."
Australia is quite the market for these hot hatches. 25% of Golds sold there are either the GTI or the R, and Australia is also the second largest market for Renaultsport cars after France. So the Civic Type-R will have to compete with the likes of the new Megane RS 275 Trophy and the Golf R.

Australians should be able to pick up their new Honda Civic Type-R around the start of the summer (I am assuming that means the Australian start of the winter, summer for us in the north).

Yeah, but there's not much to worry about here as they do in fact have plans for a north american model, just that we may see a different breed of it. If this was the exact model we're set to get, I bet order books would have opened the same time as austrailia.
That begs the question, what will be different about the North American model?

I was being hyperbolic, forgive me ;) Yea, 1 world model, which ostensibly means we will not be getting THIS Type R, but the next one...
I just don't understand why they wouldn't bring this one to NA. There is obviously enough demand for it here and I would think that NA is one of the most likely places to buy performance cars. Does anybody have any idea what Honda's logic is behind this decision?
