Honda Will Debut the 2016 Civic Sedan September 16th in Detroit and LA

Honda has given us some concrete info on the Civic debut. It isn't debuting at an auto show. Instead, Honda has decided to unveil the 2016 Civic sedan in two simultaneous events on September 16th -- one in Detroit and the other in LA.

The events will only give us a look at the design of the Civic. Honda is going to keep details on engines, fuel economy, horsepower and torque secret until next month. We also won't get a look at the coupe or hatchback models until a later date. The sedan should give a good idea of what the other variants will look like.

Expect information on the engines to be revealed in October, and the Civic should be in dealerships this fall.

By the time your lease is up, the coupe should be out and then you can compare both! I want to test drive one in the snow as that will be the ultimate test for me and my final decision will be based on how well it handles in a snow storm.
By time my lease is up the Type R should be out. haha. It's not a "should be out" it's "the entire civic range will be out" in 2 years time. And i definitely plan on going and looking at the sedan when it hits lots, then again when the coupe hits lots.

Then depending on if the Si were to get an auto transmission of some sort, i'd go back again to look at that. haha.
while we wait the two weeks, anyone want to gamble on Honda giving us a few high impact paints? (probably only the coupes and Si's)

You're talking colors i assume. Yea, i could see the concept car green making it to the Si (not that odd given the current traffic cone orange they offer now).

I know that paint colors had leaked for the sedan (and assuming it'll be the same for the coupe except for maybe 1 color). I was happy to see they're switching from the Taffeta White to the White Orchid Pearl for the civics. I prefer the luminescence of *** compared to the flat white of TW.

I know two blue colors were mentioned. I assume a darker or true blue and then maybe a light blue kinda like the 8th gen had with Atomic Blue. Probably will offer 2 red colors, a dark red or rust color and then a true red.

I'd like to see a rust color, somewhere between orange and red with a metallic sheen. A true blue similar to what's on the accord coupe and then a lighter blue. They'll probably have the 2 gray colors which one is more blue and the other is more brown. I think a dark purple would be cool too, they offer it on the fit and HRV, why not a dark purple civic?

I'm pretty sure most of you wont be interested, but Toyota is also doing a livestream unveiling of its all new 2016 Prius at 9 PM PST that can be found here.
http://livestream.com/Toyota/2016Prius

I'd imagine the format to be very similar to the Civic's next week. It's really interesting that Toyota and Honda are both doing this unconventional livestream unveiling just one week apart.
Being thsi close to the debut, Id think we might even see some undisquised spy pics before the official debut.
Wow I just watched the Toyota unveiling of the new Prius and it was awkward and unenthusiastic. It was a 15 minute unveiling that had the car flying in and the CEO talking about how awesome Prius is...not what Toyota has done to make this one even better...just how awesome Prius is. No closeup of the car and not one bit of information was divulged. I finally understand why their cars always look so tasteless, its a reflection of their leadership.
Lol, they spent around 3 minutes hauling the car out and then having it spin on the stage. I did manage to kind of look at it while it was spinning and the Prius' trunk looks a bit odd to me. Let's hope the Honda Civic reveal is more informative.
Even if the internet event for the civic is lack luster at least its the first chance for auto mags to get a hold of pictures and maybe some new info. Though honda already said it's going to wait a few more weeks to release power figures, pricing, and mpg figures (LAME). In the mean time... lets take a look at the utter affront to design and god that toyota came up with!

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatchbacks/2016_toyota_prius_first_look_review/

This thing... Toyota describes the design as "easy on the eyes". Well, their designers need new eyes... because this is just the worst kind of jumbled mess of lines, angles and LED lights that they could have created. It's like a lexus and a current gen prius had an inbred lovechild and this developmentally stinted thing was the result. I mean seriously... i can't say enough terrible things about the design. Not to mention i absolutely HATE the center mounted dash layout... how is that ergonomic at all? Having to look down and to the right to see all your info, and yet they seem determined to stick with that design idea every generation.

Will it get amazing fuel economy? Yes. Will it be comfortable and quiet and well built? Most likely. Some cars get a pass for being ugly as sin if they do their jobs well (Subaru Impreza/WRX). But... this is almost too ugly to forgive. And with Toyota's baby boomer demographic of buyers, are they really going to be sold on this "futuristic" design? I can see it appealing to younger hipster types... but... yikes. I will say one good thing. The rear LED rope lights will look pretty cool in the dark... but only in the dark. In the light the lights are way too tall/long and make the back end look saggy.

the pretty much aped the Mirai's design... in fact they might even be the same car now ;)

Well the new prius is built on the same modular platform as the Mirai, so it makes sense. Hopefully that level of ugly doesn't leak into the next gen corolla since the next corolla will most likely ride on that platform as well.
Here is an article from Torque news posted a couple days ago. Overall they've been a fairly reliable source of info so far from what i've seen. Some interesting info hidden in there regarding release dates. They say the coupe will come before the end of 2015 (figured as much) and the base hatchback will actually be here spring of next year instead of fall/winter next year which may or may not be correct. If you'd like to take a read heres the link

Now that's the info I wanted to hear, chances are that release is in line with previous civic coupe releases, coming near the end of the year before its model year.

When do you think the media will get their hands on it so we can get a first look through them?

Well if it's anything like the Prius release, the media should be able to post any info given and pictures the same day, like motortrend did with the prius. They said the sales of the sedan will start just a week or two after the debut next week, so specs and such should follow not too long after next wednesday.

As for the coupe, depending on the actual debut day i'd say specs and info will be available as soon as the debut is over. So i'd imagine Late october for all the info if they want the coupe to go on sale beginning on november. Early december at the latest.
I don't think the media will get their hands on the coupe for testing soon after the debut but we should at least be seeing a few articles with the specs and a few new shots of it.
My dealer told me 2016 CIVIC will be shipped to dealer in Canada around Oct 23rd.

Honda Canada has a plant to produce 2016 Civic sedan and coupe, and in fact it is the lead plant to produce new Civic, meaning this plant teaches other Honda civic making plants around the world to set up manufacture process.

I will do a test drive in late October.

So Canada will get the Canadian made civic almost a month after the US??

Maybe its because they sell more of them here? US gets first dibs on inventory maybe?

I thought the sedans were built here in the US in Ohio and Indiana. Only the coupe is built in canada. (That's how the 8th and 9th gens were split up at least).
I did some Google searching for where production is taking place and couldn't find anything. Where are people getting this production location information from?
