Honda will import Civic hatches from the UK to the US

Honda sales in Europe are not doing so hot right now. The Civic factory in the UK can put out 250,000 cars a year, but output has been reduced to about 100,000 due to lack of demand.

To remedy the situation, Honda is going to be importing Civic hatchbacks from the UK to the US. That will most likely include the Civic Type R that was just recently unveiled in Geneva.

Honda is planning to import between 30-40k units a year. Most of those will be Civic Sports and not Civic Type Rs.

Not quite. Honda has stopped manufacturing the Jazz in the UK, which is where the excess capacity comes from...

They've also not announced which models will be coming over, you're right it wont be the Type R because the Type R is 9th gen car and we're talking about the 10th gen Civic...

So you are thinking that a 5-door Civic is more likely then?

I hope it isn't what's in the image. I don't like the rear design. Makes it look like the tail light section [all the way across] was an afterthought and stuck on later.

I DO wish they would have a 5 door Civic. That's what I have been waiting for......for a long time now.

It won't be, pictured is Europes current Civic, still a 9th gen. Honda is talking about importing the world Civic which will be the 10th gen Civic...

UK models will be imported to Canada.

Canada has a recently signed free trade agreement with the European union.

And with the low CDN dollar it is a win win for Honda.

Type -R and the Hatch is coming

I still think Type R and the Hatch are the same car, like 02 Si. You're right about the FTA, thats why Canada will be manufacturing EU CR-Vs in exchange.

I've been thinking about the hatch being a type r for some time now and it makes sense, much more sense then making the Type R a coupe. Instead the highest the coupe might go is Si, as in typical Honda fashion.
