Honda has announced that the Swindon, UK plant will become a "global production hub" for the next-generation Civic five-door.

Honda says that the plant will produce the next-generation Civic five-door for Europe as well as other key international markets. This confirms earlier reports that have indicated the model will be exported to the United States.

Honda has also confirmed that they plan to invest more than £200 million into their European facilities in preparation for the model.

Honda UK Manufacturing Director Jason Smith said, "By establishing HUM as a global production facility for the Civic five door, Honda is demonstrating its long-term commitment to manufacturing in the UK and Europe... we look forward to making the most of the opportunity to export this model not only to our European customers, but also, to key global markets."

No Euro spec model won't be global model, they're all the same world model. Swindon will simply be handling 5 door production as thats pretty much the only place the hatchback civic is really in demand.

Also of note is that they took CR-V production away from Swindon in order for them to satisfy global hatch duties...

Isn't the CR-V quite popular though? Where are they moving production to? There will still be a big need for CR-V production.

CR-V is extremely popular...just not in europe. They take euro CR-V production away from swindon so they can focus on hatches, and the Alliston, ON plant will handle Euro CR-V... they'll swap Euro spec CR-Vs for NA spec Civic Hatches.

Does this mean the Euro-spec Civic will be exported to the United States? What about spec regulations that differ from Europe to USA? Definitely a good plan of action for Honda to invest and make the Euro plant a primary hub for the Civic 5-door. Just wondering how popular this vehicle will be in the Global markets..

Seems strange that they are building vehicles in opposite continents. Is that just because of the production capacity that each plant has?
