Leaking Sunroof

16886 Views 38 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  fear24
Purchased 2016 Honda Civic in February. June 28 1st visit with leaking sunroof. Honda replaced sunroof. Middle of July leaking sunroof. August again leaking sunroof. Honda seems to not be able to duplicate the issue. I have done a water test with a hose and water does come in. When I am driving around town the water doesn't seem to want to flood my vehicle. It only likes to flood in a park under trees. Keep in mind where I work and live I have trees everywhere... I am at a loss of what I should do. Honda can't fix and says they have no issues on bulletins.. Help!!

I would be pretty upset. This is something that has to be covered under warranty. Is your headliner getting soaked ?

Just make sure you're able to pin point exactly where the leak is coming from, that way there's no time wasted and they have no reason to tell you they didn't find anything.
You can ask your dealership to hose it down, I assume their high pressure water will get through whatever sunroof leak you have and also helps to pinpoint where it is beforehand. Yea there's a risk of your car getting wet but at least they can't say there isn't a problem anymore and they'll fix it. They should fix or replace the sunroof under warranty and this is just ridiculous.

You can try the Lemon Law and get another car.
i think lemon laws vary a bit depending on where you live so it's best to look into that first since what might apply to one person won't apply to you.

also try escalating the issue to beyond the dealership, call up Honda and see what they can do.

Yes it is getting wet. You can see a couple of creases.. Also I have showed Honda how water seeps in when you have a hose on the sunroof. I have been told this is normal for all the sunroofs made by Honda.
Wow! That is just completely unacceptable! I would give them three choices:

1. Full repair (no leaks).

2. Replace vehicle.

3. See you in court.
Full repair including replacement of headliner. If that gets mouldy, that's gonna be some trouble.

But @CivicDuty definitely has the right idea in the right order.

Made to Leak

Was told all 2016 sunroofs were made to seep or lightly leak. Honda Service USA said that is why channels were built into the window sides.
Soooooo off I go to my water hose and test it leaks or seeps like they say. WOW!!! what a great thing to find out after you spend your money.

Lemon Law forget it. Go ahead and waste your money on alawyer. Look they know that 98% of cars are not going to be noticed by customers and if it is just say they are made that way. Really what you gona do about it.

Sorry but that is the way it is so get ready for real leaks when it runs out of warranty after 2 or 3 years wear on that seal that is already made to leak.
What? I've never heard of a leaky sunroof being a feature and that seems like a boldfaced lie. Did you hear it directly from Honda Service USA?
Liar Liar Pants on Fire

The Dealer is of little matter . The Manufacture was the sayer of the matter. I am used to being called a liar I am a Veteran so I would expect nothing less from you. Look this is not a issue for anyone who checks there sunroof and it doesn't leak, for the ones that check and it does then you know. I am just saying what I was told no accusations other than if it leaks or seeps now then when the seal wears it will leak worse.
So take it as you wish good or bad.
The dealer only matters with regard to the service and customer service they provide. It would appear that they are not in your corner concerning a serious problem with your new car. Knowing the dealer helps others to steer clear of a dealer who does not go to bat for their customer. Hope you get the matter resolved.

Going to one of those flagship dealers that get the most volume and overall actually care about the customer experience is the way to go. Those guys are in it for the long term, hoping you'll actually come back for all if not most maintenance jobs.

As a retired veteran (82nd Abn Div during 'Nam), I ask that you lighten up. My interpretation is that you were not called a liar, but rather the statement (from the manufacture) that they were supposed to leak, is a lie. Don't be so thin-skinned that other opinions get to you - you already know what opinions are like. :)

I'm pretty darn sure 4Tires was referring to the dealer, and the dealer only.0:)
Could it be the seal on top of the windshield leaking through as it looks like it going across your dash?

Sorry for my poor choice of words. I was calling your dealership a liar, not you. I just find it weird that the manufacturer is saying that leaking and seeing is fine and it's normal.
