Have never owned a Honda. And neither had my parents until last week when my mom decided the CRV was her favorite of the cars she was considering. While playing her sidekick (I'm essentially her bookkeeper now) I checked out the Civic. And I am tempted. Unsure whether sedan or hatch is my favorite!

As cool as all the Honda Sensing tech is...for the most part I think the only one I really care about is the Lane Change warnings if a car is next to you. Otherwise, a rear camera is good enough for me. Those of you who have the whole Sensing system, what do you think?

Otherwise, it seems like about the only thing that most reviewers hate is the lack of knobs/buttons on the infotainment...which I get. On my mom's CRV, they at least changed it to have a volume knob.

I'm also undecided on stick vs. cvt. From the 80's up thru 2012, I only owned and drove stick. The last couple years I've been driving a small pickup with an auto. In some ways, I really want to go back to stick...wish the manual was available on all trim levels.

The hatch has a little less room in the back seat, up front you won't be able to tell the difference until you look in the rear view mirror. The hatch handles a little better because of the stiffer body. The Hatch has way more "usable" space in the back even though it's shorter. If you don't need optimal back seat space get the Hatch Sport and enjoy that stick again.

What are you currently driving right now?

Do you need the extra spacing of the hatch or does the sedan feel better?

You'll have to get in there and test them out to see what you'd really like.
Honestly, the space in either one would be fine. I need to hit up my dealer and take a good test drive in both. I didn't spend much time in the Civic since I was helping my mom buy her CR-V. But I really like the styling.

Right now I have a 2000 Camaro (v6, 5 speed) but I've hardly driven it over the last year and a 2013 Toyota Tacoma (4cyl, auto) that was my dad's before he passed.

Thanks...I've seen in some reviews that they (the reviewers) prefer the handling of the hatch, so if I find that to be the case also, then I'll go with the hatch. Usually, it's no more than me and my dog, so the back seat only needs room for him. I'll go compare the specs on the Hatch sport (manual) vs. EX (cvt only, right)?

Yes in the US, in Canada we can get the 6 speed in all trims.

lol. he is a 70 pound lab mix, but even so, the back seat will be enough room. I have a sling/cover that "attaches" by looping around the front and back headrests so will protect the seats from most of the dirt and dog hair!

I do have a question...the Honda website seems to indicate that a blindspot monitoring system exists that is separate from the Lanewatch feature that is part of the Honda Sensing suite. Is that true? I'm talking abou the feature that beeps and has an indicator on the side mirrors when you are signalling to change lanes. I couldn't find it listed on the spec sheet though. Only the "Lanewatch" that puts a view from the passenger side camera onto the infotainment screen.
