Paddle shifting

Hey guys quick question here. I have a 2020 civic sport with low miles, have had for about 2 months now, just curious, I'm kind of scared to use the paddle shifters bc I have been told if I shift too low of a gear while too high of speed it can really do some damage. My old vehicle was an 08 amd it wouldn't let me shift lower if it knew I was going too fast. With this being a cvt I would think honda would have biuit in a fail safe...so my question is will it stop me from shifting too low or could I potentially screw up the trany? Thanks
