Rear Tail-light Assembly Recall - Civic Coupe

Hi Everyone,

I just got a call today from my Honda Dealership, they say there's a recall for my 2016 Honda Civic Coupe. Something to do with the rear tail-light assembly that might be affected. They have to inspect it first and see if it needs to be replaced. I'm taking it in on July 21, will update more after they take a look, unless someone else has it done already =)

So many people complaining about this, it's about time Honda issued a recall for it.

Unfortunately tried doing a google search and couldn't find anything in regards to a recall. Interested to know if it's the actual rear tail light or if it's the third brake light. If it's the third brake light, I'm sure there will be a vast amount of people getting this phone call or a letter in the mail

Hummm, sorry I wish I have more details on it, I didn't ask too many questions about the recall. Just booked the time to take it in, But I will keep you guys updated =)

I think it may be the brake light. Someone filed a complaint about the rear interior light cover detaching with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration here: Complaints

So i brought to dealer in and out in 20 minutes no problem found

Did the Repair Order list any service bulletin number or similar that was why they were doing this work?

Not sure how accurate this is.

The 2016 Honda Civic Coupe’s taillight assemblies may have a damaged rear LED side marker light, which would make them not compliant with safety standards.
A total of 2,492 units will be recalled in Canada. Honda dealers will inspect and replace the taillight assembly if necessary.

So I'm guessing the recall is official now?

I think so.. but it would be nice to see if we could get the dealer info version of it. At least that way we know exactly how legit it is. Even if we could find out which batch of the cars it's meant for would be good ?

That number is more than likely tied to a specific batch of these so chances are the number we're seeing is right. What would help on that note of batches is to know what production date range is impacted. That way those that have a Civic from that date range can be proactive about it on their end rather than waiting for a call.

Everyone with this issue should file complaints with the NTSB. Maybe then Honda will take it seriously.

It's best to direct complaints to honda so they log everything and are able to see when a problem is widespread.

That with it going viral over social media and the regular automotive media publications usually does some good as well. Even just on social media can do a lot of justice. Just about any brand hates when that happens.

I have been having major issues with my tail light assembly. I called my dealership this morning and sadly they know nothing about the recall so it is not "official" yet. Hopefully they make it official soon because I am quite sick of hanging out at honda every couple of days while they glue my brand new car...

There may yet be one. The piston pin snap ring recall took quite a while from the time it was announced in Canada until it was submitted to NHTSA, accepted, and announced by AHM. They issued a stop sale notice to dealers but nothing else official, and nothing public, appeared for close to a month, IIRC.

Hey Everyone,

I just got my car back from Honda. Here's the Invoice from the repair. Seems like a super minor thing, Rear Marker Lights. Mine did not need to to replaced.

Fresh off the lot back around mid July

and the third brake light was already hanging off the window. Brought it in and Honda was in the process of a new solution. Their temporary fix of 3M adhesive fell off the same day it was "fixed". I so hope this recall has happened because I'm calling this week to encourage a repair!
