All Civic body styles with the trim of EX and up (EX, EX-L, Sport Touring) and the CVT (so not Type-R or Si) came standard with the remote start for the USDM.

The remote start will not work if the factory alarm isn't armed, so if there is a door sensor anywhere (including the hood and fuel door) that is not showing the BCM "CLOSED", the alarm will not arm and the remote start will not operate. Lock the doors with the key fob and look to the instrument panel to see whether the red security LED is flashing. If it is not, the security system is not arming and the remote start will not operate.

Thanks for taking time to reply. I thought you gave me the answer but no joy. Doors are locked and security light blinking. I bought the Civic at auction as a theft recovery, so might have a problem. Everything else works great, so I was wondering, does the remote start work off a module and is it easy to remove? Thanks for the suggestion and I will post if I ever get it working.

Remote start works off the body control module and is not separate from all other systems.

You have read the procedure for operating the remote start from the owner's guide, I'm guessing? It's more than just pushing the button.

Thanks for your efforts to help. No owners manual when I purchased but I have one on order. I bought the car for my Granddaughter and she took it home Sun night so I won't be able to get to it for a couple of days. Your efforts to help are greatly appreciated and I will let you know when I have success. Jimmy
