Serious Shortage

I live about 60 miles east of Los Angeles. And nobody has what I want: Touring *** with Ivory interior.

Rock Honda in Fontana has one Touring. It is black (not for me)...and they are putting a $1,999 surcharge on the price!!! That is without ANY accessories added or anything.

The fleet manager said they were getting one Touring (with my colors) on Nov. 23 but they won't budge AT ALL on their price. They have over 100 2015s still on the lot. After that, the next Touring won't arrive until January. Wah!!!!!

Spreen Honda is adding $1,495 for "Protection and Appearance Package" on their Tourings. This will include: Cargo tray, Paint & Fabric sealed, and Nitrogen in all tires.

I may have to wait until January, or later, in order to get what I want at a fair price. I am SO frustrated! I have been waiting months to get this baby. I'm actually driving a rental car to get to work!!

By the way--is the paint getting "sealed" worth anything or just a sham?? Cause if it's a great sealant and better than anything I can do, then maybe it's worth it.

Scam on sealant, just go to any car detailing shop and get it there if you want it. Or do it yourself for under $100. Go to a autopia forums or cargeek and read up. I'm getting this one next, will last quite a long while.

Just do the Internet search for your car and deal via email only as it's much easier, within weeks there will be plenty more stock. I'd also cross of any dealer that forces any addons of any kind, and a bogus surcharge would get me complaining to Honda corporate as that's just insane. No call for that at all.
Razer, how do I "do an Internet search?" From the Honda website they only give me a list of local dealers. Is there any way to see which dealers, if any, have my specific trim and color?
Thanx for all that other info!
Anyone else have input?
The pain sealant is a JOKE as what they put on here in Georgia is a product from AIM chemicals I know because I'm a detailer at a Collision repair business and we buy the same product for $35.00 a bottle and they charge $600.00 for the same stuff.......................ripoff
The car was released like 3 days ago. Of course there will be shortages. Be patient and wait a couple months and you will get the car for MSRP or less. There will be hundreds on the lots very soon. Honda is producing thousands every day.
Gee, you could have ordered the car you want from most any dealership. All it would cost you is a good faith down payment. Easier to haggle the price on an order than on an off the lot car. At the worst, you'd pay MSRP. lead time is 6 to 8 weeks for an order. If you had ordered it when the dealership did theirs, you'd probably have it this month.

I couldn't order it because I needed to see the colors first. I was hoping the burgundy would be nice, but it's too dark. i'm still pissed they don't have a nice deep red.
The cosmic blue turns out to be NOTHING like their pics and it also is way too dark.
So now I'm going with a color I never thought I'd buy: white (***); just because the car itself is so awesome.
But I didn't know it's easier to bargain when ordering a car. Maybe I should do that still now...or maybe now just wait till January.
In the meantime, I'm paying $500 a month for a rental car.
There is not even one dealer in my area with Rallye Red EX-T and there's only one Modern Steel Metallic with Black interior within a 50 mile radius....but I'd have to pay asking price at that dealer :(
Not sure if it's still done this way, but when we ordered Black Betty, the dealer's buyer told us we had just missed the CBP build batch cycle at the plant. They were only doing two colors a batch, so it would have been 6 - 8 weeks to get the next CBP go around. We said fine, but there was an identical car to what we ordered at a dealership 60 miles away. That one had been sitting in the showroom for 3 months, so we took it on a dealer trade and had it the following week. I'm guessing they still build Civics in Indiana the same way, so I'd bet that the **** will arrive soon, assuming the dealer initially ordered any to begin with. Talk to the dealer and if they are any good, they will tell you what they ordered for their inventory.

The sucky part is most dealerships especially this early in the game has no control of their incoming inventory, they get what Honda sends them and they most likely will not be doing any dealer trades this early in the release as well since dealerships are stingy with their inventory.

Really?! The dealership I bought my car from has 146 of them on order and the guy I bought mine from ordered them all. He does all of the new vehicle ordering for the dealership. It costs nothing to ask about these things and since they are looking to make a sale, the salesman should do whatever it takes to make one. If not, find another dealership that will work with you. I agree that this early in the MY makes things more difficult, but it shouldn't make it impossible.

Hey Hartmj,

Sorry for the trouble you are having finding your dream Civic. I did a quick search in my my north east region, just to get an idea on availability for a White Touring. Not only were none available, but not a single one is scheduled to be built in that color for the next allocation, which is about a two month cycle. It does seem that you may have to place a special order with a dealer and just wait. A dealer who really wants to put in the work actually can assist with bringing in a specific car for you from the factory. I've done it before.

As far as pricing goes, well, every dealer does have a right to mark up the sale price of the car, which they already bought from the manufacturer. Its up to their discretion and the customer's if they agree on the price or not. With any product, supply and demand dictate value. Just like how some crazy people pay thousands of dollars for the new iPhone every year. To us its insane, but to the buyer who has their new iPhone, they are simply happy with what they wanted.

My particular store, the owner does not believe in marking up prices or loaded them up with accessories. The price you see is what you get. No surprises. Yet with the 2016 Honda Pilot, for example, the stores around me are still marking them up.

In fact, I have a customer coming all the way from Florida to my store in NJ to pick up a car. He wanted a brand new 2016 Honda Fit LX in Pearl White, but made in Japan, not in Mexico, which is where the 2015 was manufactured exclusively. He also didnt want to pay over MSRP. It took some work and about 6 weeks, but his car arrived yesterday with a fresh JDM smell (believe it or not, Hondas made in Japan have completely unique scent).

My point is that if there's a dealer that's willing to put in the work, they can get you what you want. You just have to be patient while you want. Unfortunately, I dont have any relationship with dealers local to you, so I cant recommend a store in particular. Best bet is to go with a Honda dealer you purchased from in the past.

I wonder if there is a paint supply issue with ***? This has happened before with car makers. The most recent example was caused by the tsunami that hit Japan a few years ago. Most of the red pigment for automotive paints came from a supplier there, and some reds simply disappeared for a year or more. Of course, it just could be that the other colors for 2016 have higher order volumes and they are running those batches longer to meet demand. Also, are the *** Accords not available in any volume? My dealer lists four *** 2016 Accords on the lot out of 24 total.
Hey HondaGeek, Jamis, and others. Thank you so much for your considerate replies.
I found a dealer 1 1/2 hours away that has what I'm looking for and I'm going to go get it tomorrow! No add on fees, just msrp! Wish me luck. Matthew
P.S., I found this dealer because of one man: Winston from Penske Honda in Ontario, CA. He is awesome! If you need a guy in the Inland Empire, call him at (626) 278-7427.

I can agree with the shortage! I have a 2014 Civic EX that I'm trading in for a 2016 Civic EX-T. I've found a few locally, but all of them are marking them up, 2k-3k above MSRP. I walked in and said I'd buy the car for MSRP and no one agreed to the deal. How crazy is that?

Regardless, after a week of going around to different dealerships they have started to re-think their decision and all have called me back in to "talk more about the purchase". Last night a dealer finally offered me MSRP for a new EX-T Modern Steel color (same as my 2014) and I took it. It's scheduled to arrive next week and I put my deposit down on it.

I'm shocked at how hard it was to even get MSRP for the car. I kept saying "I'm not going to pay more for this car then Honda says I should pay for this car". It's crazy!
This new model markup scam has been going on for decades and it's not limited to Honda. The dealers do it because there are enough tuna that will pay the extra just be the first one to have one. They are gouging the customer just because it's brand new. It's the cell phone thing on a more expensive scale. Quite frankly, I won't touch a first year production car, regardless of who built it. I bought Black Betty for 1% over dealer invoice and got splash guards, wheel locks, touch up paint, a dozen oil drain plug washers, and Nitrogen filled tires for free. You have to remember that they want to sell cars, but they don't have to extract a great profit to do so and stay in business. If they just sold cars at MSRP, they'd have more profit than they'd know what to do with. If you care about your money, just be an educated consumer and shop smart. I still say this is a great place to learn how to buy a car:

Hey guys, I finally bought exactly what I want: *** Touring with Ivory interior !!
Thanx to all of you who helped. Razor, my bottle of Blackfire just arrived today.
I had to drive almost 2 hours, but I got it at list from Roberston Honda in Palmdale.
They wanted to add in all kinds of crap, most especially a warranty extension from 3/36 to 5/100 for $2,200. What a bunch of crap!
The only thing i paid extra for was a package that included: Wheel lug locks, tray in the trunk, mudflaps for all 4 tires, and door edge guards. They wanted $695 but I paid $489. Maybe it was a rip, but it's all good.
I'm having a tough time figuring out all the technology (especially making a phone call) but I'm just beginning to try. And I LOVE my car.
One last thanks to Robb, HondaGeek, Jamis, and all you of OCD Civic freaks!!!
Matthew
