I thought: if this SI is "fun enough" I can sell the Subaru BRZ and simplify my life. So, I took the new sedan SI with normal (not "summer") tires on a twisty road, and: it is FASTER, but it is NOT a BRZ on the turns. I'll keep both cars. Snow-tires (I'm in New Hampshire) will go on the SI around Thanksgiving. Snow-tires will never go on the BRZ. All is well.

This might seem a tiny bit ODD. I have a nice long (6 feet) piece of fairly dense 4" foam rubber and I have slept on it in my BRZ twice. I just did some experimenting with the new Civic-SI. NO GOOD. The BRZ is a better sleeping car. I know what you're thinking: "Go buy a TENT, you idiot...!"

AWD vs FWD: AWD "wins" on the roads in NEW ENGLAND - NH!

I sold my WRX for the Sport Touring (hatchback) - NOT the same:(
Most people I know that drive a lot in the city and suburbs prefer to have RWD, morning and evening commutes are fun when you can throw the rear end out or get some pitch happening on hard launches. Thankfully these Civic's are quite stable for something FWD, the Type R especially.

RWD is definitely a lot more fun for spirited driving to throw around the place. But these Type Rs with the FWD do great on the track for sure. Having driven a BRZ for some time, it's definitely a great drivers vehicle and handles beautifully with the right set of tires on it.

The Si was 4 seconds faster at Virginia International Raceway and that isnt exactly an easy track. The thing about the 86 triplets is that its low and the feel of having the car low around is different. The Si holds .97g on the skidpad and the R holds 1.02g....they stick very well. The feel is different because of where the weight is placed but I still think 86 triplets are too soft all around. Especially the chassis. Fun to toss around but in the end the engine choice blows it off my list of cars I would own. A few guys are now K swapping them and that should really be fun. An 86 with a 280-300whp NA k series would be a blast with a cage in it.

The 86/BRZ wasn't on my short list of cars because a) not enough power, and b) the tech is outdated plus the interior isn't fresh. I'm sure it's more playful being a RWD setup, but I couldn't look past those two things.
