Sitting on the fence 2016 Impreza or Civic

While i do love everything Honda has done with this new civic there are some things i do not like about the car mainly the infotainment issue lack of AUX and CD player and from the looks of it the hatchback isn't going to be what i was expecting. I want some input from you all on here. While i love Honda and adore my 8th gen i'll soon be looking to upgrade. I would buy the 2016 Civic Ex if anything. Here are some of my pros/cons for each:

Civic (Pros)
beautiful looking, great gas mileage, reliable and quiet ride

Civic (Cons)
Infotainment issues,First generation hiccups and these will literally be everywhere in a few months. Don't really like that about my 8th gen now. I can't go 1 mile without seeing 2 or 3

Impreza hatchback (Pros)
reliability, Fuel mileage, cargo space, nice design, AWD

Impreza (Cons)
loud on highway, not very peppy engine, doesn't corner as good and idk much about boxer engines.

Any help from you guys is appreciated and welcome.

well how important is what to you... if you really want or need AWD your choice is made... if not, well what do you value about a car?

I like my car to look good something that makes me happy to look at and call mine. I live in the mid-atlantic so sometimes we get some pretty good snows. My 8th gen handles the snow pretty well but the most i have taken it out in is 4-5 inches. I like my car to be comfortable and roomy for all. It's usually just me in the car during the week but weekends its more like 3 or 4 people. I know it will come down to a personal choice i was just looking to see if anyone had any other pros or cons they would like to share.
i had the 9th gen civic with the aux plug and the my new 10th gen does not. at first i didn't think i was going to like but to tell you truth im getting used to it. when the hooked up via blue tooth the sound comes out of the car speakers something i wasn't sure the car was going to do. but it does so im happy. so i would not worry about the lack of an aux port. as long as your phone has bluetooth

You are giving up 5 miles per gallon if you get the Impreza. Also, long term you will have more maintenance with the AWD system

I thought the AUX was going to be an issue for me until I read the Honda manual. The USB ports will pick up Flash memory sticks. So if you throw a bunch of music in folders on a flash drive, the Honda can play them. So for me, no need for AUX if I can do that. This is on top of being able to plug in iPODs, iPhone, Androids which will show your music. Also the HD radio is great with the sub channels. (multiple channels per station)

Can you give me some example of the maintenance? I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything i just have no idea how AWD systems really even work. Is it because the the rear differential?

Worse case scenario someone can always hook up an aux from the back of the headunit. But that will be an uncommon thing here.
The maintenance isn't too bad, just differential fluid changes. My buddy has a 2012 Impreza. However, with AWD vehicles you have to match the tires perfectly. So if you get a bad tire 2 years into the life, you may have to replace all 4 tires. This is according to Subaru. My buddy says its his last AWD vehicle because he had to pay 1200 dollars to replace all 4 tires. Also, when he got a flat in the front tire, you can't put the spare tire on it! You have to move the tire from the back to the front. (or risk damage to the transmission) The spare can only go on the back wheels.

So unless good all season (or winter tires) are not good enough in the area you live in, it just seems like extra headaches

That sounds terrible!! Looks like i may be building an Ex after all. Does anyone know how muchi should expect to pay if the car i build on the Honda site is around 22,500? After title and reg fees?
Don't let my one story sway your decision.. I'm just letting you know my buddy's experience. There are plenty of great reviews on the 2016 Impreza. You have to make a list of features that you want and compare the two vehicles

The official invoice prices are listed in this thread:
http://www.civicx.com/threads/official-2016-honda-civic-pricing-invoice-retail-revealed.412/

You want to try to pay the Invoice price + Delivery charge ($835). So you should be able to get one for 21462 (includes destination/delivery) before Tax, Tile, License
I'm in the market for a fuel efficient hatchback that's fun to drive and has decent cargo capacity. The new Civic (pending hatchback specs & options) has supplanted the VW Golf at the top of my list, primarily due to MPG and reliability. The Mazda3 would be at the top, except it's not as quiet as the other two and that's fairly important to me for long road trips. The Ford Focus is in the running as well. All the cars I've mentioned have their positive attributes. It can be difficult weighing pros & cons. Ultimately it will come down to test drives. On average I keep a car 10 years so I have to like how it drives and how I feel in the cockpit -- comfortable seats, ergonomic controls, good tech & sound system, and specific features I care about. The things I use on a daily basis have to work well and feel good.

Spend some time in several cars that meet your most important criteria. Choosing the one that is right for you might boil down to your own subjective impressions -- is this a car you want to live with day in and day out for the next several years?

I think i am going to wait it out and save and see what the 2016 Civic Hatch looks like. Although the Civic hatch wont have AWD i can probably live without it here in Central Jersey if i was in like Buffalo NY i'd probably have a different opinion. The civic hatch is a cross of the best of both worlds it will be spacious when you put down the rear seats and still get amazing gas mileage.
I live in Chicagoland, which probably has harsher winters than Central Jersey. My little 2007 Honda Fit has never gotten stuck, but I have 40 years experience of driving in snow.

My wife is on her 3rd Subaru Outback. She never considered a Subaru until I suggested it, now she doesn't want anything else. They've been very reliable, and she's never mentioned anything about having to replace tires due to uneven wear. I'd be very temped to get the Crosstrek if it had better fuel economy.

It wouldn't hurt for you to include the Impreza in your test drives.
If you absolutely have to get to work no matter the weather (health care) the Impreza will give you some peace of mind. However once started both cars will stop in a similar fashion (given the same tires). As long as you are going on roads that are well maintained and readily plowed the Civic will do everything you need.
Nice to have a choice between two great vehicles.
They are both great cars. For me it would come down to if I needed awd. If I lived in a rural area where roads are not always plowed or there is mountainous terrain the Subaru is a given. If in the city or suburbs the Civic makes more sense.
This forum has the self-serving nasty habit of replacing all references to c-i-v-i-c-x.com [my added hyphens to work around this behavior--you will have to remove them], even in URLs, with references to this site. So that URL is broken.
You can google 2016 Civic Invoice Prices. I think its the 3rd link. (don't bother with Tru-car because you you have to click a bunch of stuff to see the invoice prices)
I realized my 2016 EX-T didn't have a CD player until after I brought it home! I was really disappointed but then a friend suggested using a thumb drive in the USB ports and it's SOOO much nicer than CDs! No more dealing with scratched discs or having to store them all in the car. I've had 0 issues so for with the infotainment system. I recently bought these items for my car, a low profile thumb drive and a cigarette lighter USB adapter for added ports to charge devices.
