So You Want a 2016 Civic LX?

So you want to buy a 2016 Civic Sedan but you don't know which model is best. Realistically you just want a car to get from A to B that's somewhat stylish and will return a good fuel economy...

Most reviews are focused on higher trim, fully loaded cars. Which makes sense Honda is interested in publicizing the higher margin end of the spectrum.

Check out this video from Herb Chambers Honda reviewing the Civic LX. It's the first real review I've seen of the lower spec interior.

It's a good watch for anyone who is worried that the base model may not include everything they need.

Very nice find. So now we have HondaProJason and Honda Laura? They should have one make a special appearance on one of their videos.
Great job. Wish they showed the sensing system in action.
Lol, I can see where the other Toyota corolla vs Honda civic video idea came from.
The base model has some great features that other manufacturers would charge you extra for like the back up camera but it's still missing the all important heated seats for wintertime. If only that came standard.
I live in Chicagoland and have never had a car with heated seats. I can live without them, but what I really wish the LX had was the 7" touch screen with Android Auto instead of the 4.5" screen. That's pretty close to a deal breaker for me, unless aftermarket alternatives can fit in the dash and connect to the steering wheel controls.

can you not upgrade to the 7" as a standalone option or part of a pack?

If that's a possibility, I would definitely do it.
She did a great job of giving an interior tour which isn't like anything else i've seen and for the majority of buyers that is exactly what one of their main things they'll want to check out.

It's not an option honda offers. If you want the bigger screen you have to move up a trim to the EX.

Granted i'm sure buying the separate parts and retro fitting the whole thing is possible, but 3x as costly as just upgrading to an EX.

But if you want the manual it's either deal with small screen, pay out the a** to retrofit or wait another year (or so) until they expand availability on the manual transmission.

I definitely want a manual, and I'm fine with the 2.0 engine and the other features on the LX. I'm waiting for the hatchback anyway, and hopefully the manual will be available with the 7" screen.

An EX with CVT is priced $1600 more than LX with CVT ($2400 more than LX manual), so I'm not sure an aftermarket head unit would cost more than going up a trim.

Last year I was researching aftermarket head units for my 2007 Fit, and there are retrofits available for the section of dash that houses the unit. Since the Civic is new, it's hard to tell how much demand there might be for aftermarket replacements or how long it might take for the dash kit to become available.

In Canada our LX come with 7" screen, Apple Carplay, the LED centre console and heated seats. It should be the same everywhere. Too bad...
