Speakers popping upon startup?

10423 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Ravin
I've been having issues with my speakers since about a week after delivery. When I start the car up the speakers begin to pop and no audio comes out. If I drive for awhile the popping will stop but the audio still won't work. I have to restart the car once, sometime more than that to get it working normally. But when the audio does work it sounds great.

I've taken it to the shop 4+ times and they can't find the issue. I received the 16-001 update and that didn't do anything. My car wasn't even apart of that recall they just pushed it because they couldn't find the issue.

I have a 16 Touring.

Any ideas of what it could be?

I'm curious how loudly you listen to your music and keep the volume at when you leave or enter the car.
I think is the head unit itself and not the software. Good luck in trying to squeeze a replacement unit from Honda without going to court. If they do finally replace it, it will probably be a refurbish unit in which you will never know.
You really think they will go to court over it? Pretty sure they would just give in before spending money on going to court.
My appologies...what I meant is if you can't prove it. When the service can't see it, they will report "no problem found" and then you have a problem cause they will believe them over you. My headlights had condensation in it from day 1. I forgot to take a pic of the defect. I brought it in and they tested it and they couldn't replicate it. Guess what? My lights were not replaced and now Honda thinks I'm trying to scam them out of a pair of lights. Now I have to wait til it fogs up again and take a photo (protect myself). Honda thinks I'm a liar or the headlight miraculously healed themselves cause there was no condensation.

FYI to all my brothers (and sisters) out there. IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING ISSUES IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE PROOF. TAKE PICS OR VIDEO OF THE ISSUE OR YOU WILL NOT GO ANYWHERE WITH HONDA (spinning your wheels). Remember to protect yourself.
Some people have reported, in the other Civic X forum, similar behaviors that they were able to suppress by turning off the DTS Neural signal processing. YMMV.
I have video of it happening
how do you turn that off?
On the Sound settings, there is an SVC/Neural tab. It's on there, supposedly.
I've been having this issue on and off over the last few weeks. You can turn DTS Neural off in settings, or if you're on one of the audio screens (like FM radio - I usually use AA so I have to choose a different source) there is a "Neural" icon that you can press to turn it on or off (blue is off, by the way). When you turn it off the sound will be back, but if you switch it back on then you will hear the popping again. Some random combination of rebooting the head unit and restarting the car also gets it to go away. I think someone pointed out that if you start the car with neural on its more likely to have this popping noise.

I took it into the dealer once already and this was the first time they had anyone in for it. They tried to call the Honda Techline but no one picked up, so they let me go and said they'd try again. Still haven't heard anything, so I'm assuming there's nothing they can do short of Honda making a software update or replacing the head unit. I may try another, larger dealership in the area. Next time it happens I'm getting it on video.

People you have to protect yourself, take pic or video, cause its a bit better than your word. Honda doesn't just give away parts and labor cause you claim so. Compared to other car manufactures, Honda is one of the worst (like pulling teeth) when it comes to service claims. I talked to the manager (Carl) yesterday at head office for Honda about the condensation in my headlights and I told him I had proof (a pic) and he said it doesn't prove anything (accusing me of take a pic of someone else headlights). I told him with that attitude we're going to end up in court. He said fine (sounded very confident Honda will win). I am just flabbergasted at his cockiness. When video or pic has no validity at Honda...you know you're going to have major problems. Had I known this (attitude), I would of never walked in the dealership, and I would of warned the others (friends, family, civic forums, ect) just as I am doing now.

(If this goes to court and I lose with evidence like pic, video, witnesses and testimonies (like this forum), I am going to beat the living crap out of Carl in the court room and then I'm going to hire his lawyers to get away with it)

I'd call Honda corporate and complain, perhaps they have a solution for you, and make sure you have documentation of the times you took it in, and also google and find out the lemon laws for your state.

Documentation is key from what I've learned, helps them to connect the dots and take you more seriously as you can imagine how many people they have call in with things that are a non-issue
Yes
i was fooled for 6 services / checkups and done nothing

Mine fixed only when i told Honda Customer service to do safety recall of my car. I know the popping sound is more then jet plane, and can damage kids ears. mine too.
they changed amplifier and some other faulty electric parts immediately once i talked to Honda Customer service and dealer. take video of problems as evidence.

Tell them this is known issue and I want it fixed till then u give me rental vehicle on your charge

Tell them keep car till they fix this issue.

Hi Austin. Complain the Honda Customer service. say this is known issue. keep my car till u fix it and give me rental. miracle happens in a day will get fixed. Mine got fixed. after 6 checks / services. as this is SAFETY issue to my kids ears, its popping sound more than jet airplane. and may result in an accident due to loud popping noise. SAFEty
