sunroof stuck open

On Friday I drove my car home. Put the car in park and pressed the button to close the sunroof. Nothing happened. I turned off the car and turned it back on, drove it a mile and put it back in park. Still nothing. Finally after a few minutes it started to close an inch at a time everytime I hit the button. My dealership had no explanation for this and it didn't throw any computer codes.

.... That's really weird. Maybe intermittent motor failure ?
Maybe something is jamming it and preventing the sunroof from closing? Has it been brought in to your dealership yet?
Also wondering if you brought it to the dealership as well.. the way you said it could be taken as a phone call perhaps ? Either way they have to get that resolved, that's really inconveniencing
I did take it to the dealership and they ran some tests and couldn't figure out what the problem was. I took a video of it happening but unfortunately it was at night and the lighting is so poor that you can basically just hear it getting stuck. They told me to bring it back if it happens again and they will try to change some things. I hope it doesn't decide to happen in the 10 seconds we get before a florida downpour or I will be soaked before it gets 1/4 of the way closed!
Give it a few tries at home to make sure it's really working again. Wondering if that was a one time thing or id the entire track needs to be replaced.
hopefully if something needs to be changed it's something simple or a matter of some adjustments since I think these sunroof assembly's require some fine tuning before it all works in sync properly. remember seeing a work shop manual that mentioned that, can't imagine it being much different for these systems overall.
I have had my sun roof stick in the open mode once during the 2 months I have had the car (Touring). It just started working again on it's own a few hours later. This is truly disconcerting though as you never know when you could get caught in a down pour. Honda needs to get to the bottom of this sooner rather than later.
Best to bring it to the dealership if it happens again so they can take a look and log the complaint. If it happens enough, maybe Honda will have a recall for the sunroof.
Hopefully it's just a case of the sunroof system needing lubrication maybe it's something that was required of them to do during the PDI but missed it. At least that can be a first line of defense. If not, then you (or them) dig deeper.
If the sunroof keeps getting stuck and lubricating it doesn't help, the tracks and wire harnesses may need to be replaced. This seems like a common problem as I've been reading about it elsewhere too. they had problems with the tilt function too where only one side will close.

What would the wiring harness have to do with anything?
I can see how the tracks might be an issue but the harness?

I am not sure that lubricating or new tracks/wire harness will help. To me it seems like when you press the button the computer isn't acknowledging to actually start to close the window. Sometimes you press it and nothing happens, it's not like it tries to move and gets stuck it just doesn't move at all. Luckily this has only happened to me the 1 time but now I am worried everytime I open the thing that it may not close!

Do you know what the production date is on your car? Hopefully it's not impacting other vehicles from the same production time frame as yours.
Best to record it if it happens again and bring it to the dealership in case you cant recreate it. Yours may be a different problem than from what I've been seeing. Most people hear a grinding sound when their sunroof isn't working and not opening/closing.

In other forums I have seen quite a few people complaining that theirs gets stuck open when they use the tilt feature. Mine works fine on tilt but this problem happened when it was fully opened. I did take a video recording but unfortunately it was dark so it is hard to see. If it happens again (which I hope it doesn't) I will most definitely be taking a video!
That could be a possibility as well, some systems experience troubles when they don't move slowly as a safety precaution and just stop.

Same thing happened to my 2016 Honda Civic Touring. At first it wouldn't close then after a couple of tries it intermittently started closing. Then I tried opening and wouldn't open at all after so many tries.
Feel like they should replace the whole sunroof if possible if they can't fix it.
