Motortrend lays this one down!!

The base engine is a 2.0-liter, naturally aspirated inline-four with two camshafts, producing 158 hp at 6,500 rpm and 138 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. A relative of the Euro-market Civic Type-R's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, the square (86mm bore by 85.9mm stroke), port-injected 2.0-liter has that VTEC, of course. And the six-speed manual transmission it's hooked up to is new too.

Probably about as related as i am to my aunt's cat...

All joking aside... im sure it shares some simpler components between the two. Anywhere production costs can be cut down on....

Probably just the block itself. Expect just about everything else to be different for both the Si and Type R.

A good comparison is what Mazda did to the MS3. Same 2.3 block found on the base 3 and Ford Duratec motors. But almost everything else (and I mean everything) was different. Heck, even the AC compressor had a revised CHRA to handle the increased torque from the motor.
