Tinting question??

3091 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  B20Vtec
Just got my Touring Sedan. Love it! Now I need to get it tinted.

Main concern. Do they have to take the back seats area apart to do the rear window?? Yikes? Or is there another way? I saw this guy take apart his backseat to fix the rattle by the sub.

They should be able to install the tint without removing the back section of the civic. Just takes a bit of maneuvering inside. I looked up a video of sedan(not civic) rear window tinting and the back was not removed.
Majority of the time they won't take it out. They may want to remove the third brake light but even at that, some people are able to do it without. You could easily ask the installer beforehand as well just to be sure.
It looks like you can't take the speaker/brake grill out unless you remove the seats and panels on the side. This scares me. But I'm no professional.
Then definitely consult with them first. I mean, either way even if they have to. Ultimately, they're responsible for it to go back in the exact same way it was before. So there's nothing really to worry about either way
They should remove the third brake light so you can get an even tint along the whole back window. If the tint place knows how to tint they wont take the back seat out and it should only take 3 hours max for them to tint front, rear and back windows.
Not to mean to hijack the thread. Been thinking about tinting my EXL also. Just wondering if tinting would interfer the dimming function of the rear view mirror. Please comment.

That's a very good question actually.. I never thought about that :|
I finally had the tinting done with 35% for the sides and back. Happy to report that it does not interfere the dimming function of the rearview mirror. The installer checked the light transmission, it shows 29.5%.
