US Civic May Get Civic Type R's Engine

The US Honda Civic may be getting the Civic Type R's engine according to a new report. That engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes at least 280 PS.

MotoryRacing cites "sources close to Honda" that say that Honda is working on an updated US-spec Civic and part of that plan is to bring the previously mentioned engine to the United States.

Until we here otherwise, the Civic Si will remain America's high-performance model, which runs on a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 205 bhp and 174 lb-ft of torque.

I won't mind not having a Civic wearing a Type R badge and instead possibly having a really potent Si model with these Type R components.

Honda never once sold a vehicle with a "Type R" badge, aside from the JDM Honda Integra Type R sold as an Acura in North American, so it's quite possible they will follow that trend, hopefully not.

After a big gulp of Weissbier and an even bigger leap of faith, he comes to the conclusion that “The former Saab mother GM must want to sell the XTS platform under one of its European brands. In Germany, this would mean Opel. In the UK Vauxhall.”

I would be totally fine with a 280 horsepower Si.

This... All the article online that says ITR is confirmed for NA doesnt have the writer's name on the artitle...

But I really like the spoiler on the Type R so I hope that they bring that to North America and don't only give us the engine without the rest of the design.

I have a feeling we're going to get a different chassis from the Euro/JDM version. As long as the chassis isn't trash like the EP3, I'll be happy.

Different chassis is what it seems, one thing we have to keep in mind is that Type R wasn't built with the intention of going to North America. At least it will make things interesting on both ends, potent Civic's for both

I realize that they never were intending to bring the Civic Type R to North America, but that doesn't make me any happier about it. I just don't really understand why they made that decision. It's such a cool car and North America is a huge car market. Why wouldn't you want to sell it here?

No idea why they left out north america, bad call on their part in my opinion but no need to worry about that now as we're on track to getting one. The rest of their brand was like that too, not much performance-focused products, finally the fun times are slowly returning.

It's just funny to hear everyone and their mum say bad call no Type R, they should bring Type R over. Oh really? You don't think Honda knows that the internet is full of ****? You don't think they know that sportiness hasn't sold cars for 10 years, at least not volume wise? We're all so smart, how come Honda hasn't found our CV's yet?
