Numbers 1-3 are the World Manufacturer Index (WMI) and tells you the country/region/plant car is made:
Numbers 4-9 are the Vehicle Description Section (VDS) which tells you the model, body type, transmission, engine:

- 19X = Indiana plant
- SHH = Swindon plant
Numbers 10-17 are the Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) and identify the particular vehicle:
- Numbers 4-6 (model line and engine type)
- FC1 = Sedan Turbo (1.5T)
- FC2 = Sedan N/A (2.0L)
- [__] = Coupe
- [__] = Hatchback
- Number 7 (body and transmission)
- F = 4 door sedan CVT
- E = 4 door sedan Manual
- Number 8 (equipment trim level)
- 3 = Sedan EX-T
- 4 = Sedan EX-T with Honda Sensing
- 5 = Sedan LX
- 6 = Sedan LX with Honda Sensing
- 7 Sedan EX and EX-TL
