Production of the 2016 Civic Sedan has begun in Alliston, Ontario!

New Civic's are expected to begin showing up at dealerships across Canada and the US by the end of October/early November.

“Civic is a vehicle that Canadians have grown to trust. This tenth generation model will continue to set a new benchmark in the compact class with fun-to-drive performance, fuel efficiency and safety performance, together with a new level of refinement,” said Jerry Chenkin, president and CEO, Honda Canada Inc. “Canadians can also take pride in knowing that every Civic coupe, sedan and Si model sold in Canada is made right here in Ontario, for Canadians, by Canadians.”

And Canada has every right to be proud, Alliston is the lead plant globally. Meaning they are not only the first facility to spool up production, but also the facility that develops processes and technologies that will be adopted by the 11 other Civic manufacturing facilities.

“Our team also set a new benchmark, taking on the incredible challenge of being the lead plant for the global launch of this new Civic, and we’re committed to delivering world-class Civic quality for our customers here in Canada and around the world,” said Dan Smith, president of Honda of Canada Mfg.

Is there any difference at all between the Civics that will go to either country? Just ever so slight differences I guess.

So Canada makes them for Canada and the US, but the US only makes them for the US?

I mean that makes sense.
It shouldn't make a difference other than possible slight differences in part suppliers for various small components like nuts and bolts and stuff like that.

Up to this point EVERY civic coupe 8th and 9th gen was built in canada. The US ohio plant built the sedans. Same for the accord coupe and sedan.

Do we know if Canada will still supply all the coupes?

They might. I spoke to a guy online about the civics (he worked in the ohio plant) and said that he knew nothing about the new civics (this was a few months back) because the indiana plant was building all the sedans. So Canada might supply 100% of the coupes as they always have to this point.

I just spoke to a Riverside CA dealer and I was told they will be getting the new civic in FEB? They posted a picture on IG(#2016civic) this morning of a black touring model in their showroom....I hope he didn't know what he was talking about. Anyone have any input on when we are likely to see them/purchase at local dealers?

I've been reading from other forum members who have talked to their dealers and November 2nd is the earliest date. On an automotive blog, I've read November 3rd is the official on sale date.

Have you called them? did they explicitly write Feb 2016, or was it something like 2.11 or 11.2 which could be Feb 11 or Nov 2?

Welcome to the boards BTW!

The dealership I bought Black Betty from lists 147 2016 Civics in their inventory. When I checked yesterday these didn't show up. They appear to have ordered one of each color and model/trim. I doubt that all 147 cars are on the lot, if any. The other Honda dealer in town shows no '16 Civics in their inventory. I didn't check the other area Honda dealers as they are typically lower volume stores in nearby towns.

I submitted an online inquiry and received a phone call from a sales rep. They said they will be getting them in February next year. Doesn't seem right....

I see two explanations for this statement:
1. The sales rep. doesn't have a clue as many don't, especially the younger ones. I only talk to a senior salesman when I visit a car dealer. I find them more knowledgeable and easier to deal with.
2. The dealership is struggling to rid itself of the 2015s and wants you to cave on your instant gratification urge and forego a 2016.

I went to my local honda dealer in Florida. It is a pretty big dealership and the sales guy said their training had been canceled/delayed due to them still having a lot of 2015 stock. Then he tried to get me to look at the 15s a few times hah.

Honda holding them hostage eh...
Standard practice with Honda. I've been told years ago that the dealer has to sell down the prior MY inventory to a certain level (based on their individual volumes) before Honda will release the ordered new MY cars to the dealer. I was told that the new models are held in the regional distribution yard until that threshold is met.

wonder if it wouldn't be better to find a lower volume honda shop. lower overhead perhaps?
